Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) or Sharp's syndrome is a human autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body. MCTD combines features of polymyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and systemic scleroderma and is thus considered an overlap syndrome. MCTD commonly causes joint pain/swelling, Raynaud phenomenon, muscle inflammation, and scarring of...
MT, the date and time disorientation we all have on this board is really a howl. This is such a specific kind of cognitive problem, and we all seem to have it at one point or another! Your Halloween party sounds like a lot of fun. I wish I liked holidays as much as I used to.
Polar, hey, great to hear from you! Sorry you haven't been well... don't know what Topamax is, anti-inflammatory or painkiller or what, but sorry it didn't work out. That really sounds like a drag... unconsciousness is NOT the way we want to resolve these symptoms!
Help, I am glad you are feeling better... you have been really chipper in many of your posts.
I am so sorry about this hair loss thing that bugs everyone. I should post a picture of how ridiculous I look with my weird male pattern baldness, might make you feel better, though I know this must be tougher for gals than guys... from just the right angle, I might look like I have hair, but if the wind blows the wrong way, it turns into this strange Kiss-Gene-Simmons/Mohawk thing.
Dallas, you seem to manage to post no matter how you are feeling. I am so impressed by that... you're often the first to post, and I feel like your playing the bugle to get us all out of bed and rally us for the coming day.
As for the water temperature, it was actually 65 degrees on Monday, which is very warm for this time of year and fine for 40 minutes or so in a wet suit. My wet suit is supposed to be good down to 55, but any lower than 60 degrees and my DVT foot turns blue. If it is 60 or more next week, I might try and go again, but that was probably it for the season... so much cheaper than skiing! (Though I like skiing more.)
I am training/trying out for this potential consulting gig 5-7 hours for the past couple of days, and pardon my french, but it's a bitch. The work is incredibly hard and technical, and the chairs are much worse than the ones in school, and there is no room for my special chair, which is huge.
I have gotten a recling camp chair with a leg rest, and I will see if I can manage with that. But the pain is pretty terrible after a couple of hours... makes it really hard to think straight. And as soon as I get home, I need pain meds immediately, and as you know, I don't like taking those every day. And if I sign on Monday, that means I am going off unemployment... so I better make sure I can really do this.
Actually, I'm feeling pretty depressed about it now. But I am not going to give up. If there's any way I can make this work, I'm going to do it. If it doesn't work out, I'm not going to beat myself up about it. I'm not going to complain to my wife and friends, either, and make them miserable.
It is so good to hear from you guys at times like these. And to know that you are listening.
The name "Daily Strength"? I think I'm starting to get that now.
Best,

So how long is the part time consulting gig good for? I remember many years ago when I went off unemployment and took a short term job. When I completed that assignment, I was out of luck in getting unemployment again. It seems crazy to me that they "penalize" you for working sometimes.
But I understand the desire to be working. It is helpful to our psyche to be productive--the paycheck helps too.
Anyway, I wish you luck in your decision and dealing with the uncomfortable seating arrangements.
