Try to not put your bills on your credit card for starters. Around here, the Drs and hospitals dont charge interest. But credit cards do, so you have to pay more. See if you can set up a payment plan with the hospitals and doctors. Don't let them bully you into more a month than you can pay, but make your payment each month so they trust you. Sometimes, the hospitals will give you a discount if you do that. Often, the doctors don't have a big enough practice to do that. But,see if you can bargain with them ahead of time. Sometimes they will agree to take what insurance will pay, or not charge you for something if they know ahead of time. Ask them if they can give you any samples of meds. Even a couple of weeks can help. Go generic when you can. Ask the Dr if you REALLY need all those tests or if they can be done less frequently.
Also, if you have a small bill, pay it ASAP. All those bills for $15 or $20 really get you down when payment time comes.
I paid down a HUGE bunch of medical bills years ago. It was hard. I made a payment on each one every month and tried to pay off one small one each month. It was hard and we did without any extras. Also, this medical problem was a long term one, not a one time event, so it is similar to what you are going through. Hope this helps.

This is a struggle for us to. Does your company have a flexible spending account. I am not i it yet, but will be after open enrollment. It allows me to put money aside tax free for medical bills.

I keep every single doctor, hospital, and medicine bill, and my accountant tries to "write off" as much as he can.

It is damn expensive!
