My cardiovascular specialist called today to inform me that, in addition to my high blood pressure, I have high cholesterol. She said that both good and bad were high. I think I recall the number 286. I could not hear her well because I was at my gastroenterologists office learning about additional tests/procedures needed for my esophagus.

I have called the latter doctor to get the exact cholesterol numbers.

Does anyone know if MCTD and high cholesterol are related? I am 43, do not have a family history, eat very well (most of the time), and work out.

Any information would be helpful!

I am not positive,(that applys in so many ways) but I looked around and did not find a connection. but that isn't why I answered. I had high Cholesterol for a short time years ago. The meds they used caused severe joint pain and other side effects. I would get all my doctors together before I started a treatment that can mimic signs of a flare. I would hate to see them up prednisone for symptoms coming from the certain group of chol meds.

Thanks so much for the advice! So many doctors....
I loked around too and did not find much. My doctor said she is concerned becuase the implications related to connective tissues disorders. I meet with soon and will fin d out more.

Mine went up, but it is because of the weight gain from the prednisone.....I am hoping it will come down again when the weight comes off.
