Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) or Sharp's syndrome is a human autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body. MCTD combines features of polymyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and systemic scleroderma and is thus considered an overlap syndrome. MCTD commonly causes joint pain/swelling, Raynaud phenomenon, muscle inflammation, and scarring of...

Sounds like you have several things going on.
What has your doctor said?
Ok my left legg simularly sounds like to my own swelling, but not simulary To your reasons you listed.
Yes, i only take pedisone when my copd fliars up like i happening to have to be on pred.
But my swelling might because from other things like heart.
Heartfalure, or ? Arthrits ?
I had a knee injury and also have a baker cyst, that also can cause swelling?
I have sensory poloneuropath may plays a roll.
What i guess is only your Doctor will test, check, know, or others here like us might fall in simular promblems and may help with more information your way? Or you might search it out like on web md, or?
It is frustrating not knowing and getting it all work out.
God bless

I'm not exactly what you meant. But to clarify my obviously misunderstood post. I wasn't looking for sympathy or need to be reminded That some people (esp) women are at work with swollen legs. And I hope your not taking this offensively. I wanted advice , not knowing if the cause could be A. Blood clots, B.Medicine C. MCTD itself. and further to try and understand why while being treated for each of these in the first place would they appear now after treatment for any one could start. I tried not to write my normal book like normal. But have always felt that words have to many meanings and need clarification. Also I didn't mention severity. I couldn't get a tube sock on my foot with 2 of my children helping. I'm sure your intentions were great and sorry if now I've misunderstood you.
I read it 3 times now and I did misunderstand you. Very sorry.
"Poor you, you must feel absolutly shit. I will only add one thing to your thoughts it would be nothing, I have a swallon leg but they can find a cause and its just swallon so does a women at work.. "
I thought you were telling me "its nothing" You have one" "and you are working with it" like I didn't appreciate people who have it worse than me.
The only reason I left all that, is i realized The meds must be messing with me, moody, sorry hun, i know you meant well and I guess im just being a Mitch today. I apologize again, and Yes there dropping the dose by 20 again. 80 , 60 , 40 is the plan over months while I build up the cell cept. I hate these meds and Im going to hug my wife now because If im moody here im sure ive done something wrong to her also. Thanks for the wake up. Thats why im calling it AeMCTD
Anxiety enhanced MCTD

I'm sure this has happened to everyone before. Your sick, swollen, feeling bad or whatever all weekend. Wake up Monday morning more than half the swellings gone, its not red and doesn't hurt as bad. I was already worried from all the choices of what could have caused it and if they could have isolated what it was. I'm not going now. I don't need another visit with slight swelling and no redness. I think I took some picture so the doc can see them whenever
This is not a "normal" or usual MCTD symptom, but it does happen, and it happened to me. My understanding is that blood chemistry is sometimes off in subtle ways that can contribute to the formation of a clot. For example, while my D-dimer was normal after my clot, my platelet count was on the (very) high side of normal, right on the borderline.
Red, swollen leg is a classic symptom of a blood clot. The best test for detecting this is a doppler ultrasound. Sometimes, they give you a D-dimer to see if you need an ultrasound, but for many people, that's just useless, it will always be negative even if the person has a clot.
I probably would see the doctor for this.
And yeah, I hear you on the problems at home. My wife, all things considered, is very good at managing my illness-- but there are some parts of it that she is really bad at. She's been kind of avoiding me in strange ways ever since my GI symptoms cropped up, makes me feel like she's preparing for me being dead.
(Honey, if you are reading this, please take this with a grain of salt, and let me know-- my wife is on DS, in another forum, but we don't read each other's posts. I think.)
Now, mind you, I was dealing with a doctor who was being less than completely helpful and she was the point person responsible for me... I would pity the doctor, because she can be a fierce advocate, one of the best I've ever known. But she does have these blind spots, as yours probably does, too. They do tend to get smaller with time.
Keep us posted...

Was contacted by the rhumy today, and he said "I have looked at your labs, they currently do not indicate a specific autoimmune clotting disorder. I was able to review your antibodies again as all of them finally returned as well. Your ANA, RNP, and Sm antibodies are the ones that remain positive. These are indicative of Mixed Connective Tissue Disease which would go along with the symptoms of inflammatory arthritis and the Interstitial Lung Disease. Sm antibodies usually indicate lupus, but lupus does not commonly cause positive RNP antibodies and Interstitial Lung Disease. Mixed Connective Tissue Disease can cause give you symptoms typically found in more specified diseases (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Inflammatory Myositis, etc.), it is considered a mix of these diseases. Remember that the names on these diseases are also arbitrary, they are likely defined end processes of several different immune diseases each that we are currently not sophisticated enough to differentiate.
Your lungs showed improvement in both how much you can inhale and an improvement in how well you exchange gas in the lungs. I cannot quantify this easily to put in perspective for you.
The prednisone does reduce inflammation, and it has done so, hence your normal inflammatory markers. Residual symptoms are not likely due to inflammation, but other issues. Prednisone causes significant swelling as it causes fluid retention, if this is coupled with already damaged veins, this can cause significant lower leg edema. I am glad it has reduced. Continue to stick to the plan we have laid forth so far." end quote
He seemed to make sense there, Kindof
If Prednisone is whats used to remove inflammation It makes perfect sense that it would cause it also. anyway It went down by half this morning so i didnt go in. Ive emailed my internal GP and will see him in the next 2 days about it anyway. As far as him saying damaged vessels I have had clots in my legs, but being in my arm and shoulder are new. My face is also swollen , aw shucks its round, I look like a Mr Patatoe head with all the parts popped off. my chin is touching my chest and I have put on about 30 lbs in a couple weeks. I looked up the cellcept today and they say it can cause swelling and retention. I double the dose on it This thursday i think, and cur prednisone from 80 to 60 again, But this time I told him, its a holiday and if I even start to fall apart again, im going right back to 80 that day. I understand I need to get off the stuff but damn thanksgiving weekend , no docs and last time it went poorly.
thx again everyone, I will update on there next breakthrough prolly wed night
Thats sound possitive, now I have to be carefull has I have bad brain fog today so i will try and say this right but I am sorry if i dont.
The non indication of a specific autoimmune clotting disorder sounds possitive.
Mixed Connective sorry the MCTD being a mixed compostite of illness meaning that your swallon leg is a sympton of that.... Have I got that right.
Sorry Livin I cant put into words what I am trting to say i have del;eted and re rote this post and other post today, I am leaving this up and just going to say
