I've not ever heard of it, but considering almost all of our medications are originally meant for other diseases, we can't rule anything out!

I haven't tried LDN yet but there is a huge thread regarding it on the Roadback board. I believe that there is almost 200 comments so it should be a wealth of information. The subject post is something along the lines of 'Has LDN worked this quickly for others?'.

How ironic that you are checking into Naltrexone. This is the drug my family doctor thought I'd like to try. He asked me to ask this support group if you all have have any input.

My health insurance runs out at the end of the year, so I'm in a big race to get a long-term drug stockpiled before then.

Sure would like to know everyone's thoughts on this, too.

@mgrace, one of the reasons that LDN is not so well-known is because it is NOT expensive...therefore, not worth drug reps time. Please go check out Lowdosenaltrexone.org. There are many success stories. Even the pharmacist I used said his sister has been on it for the past 5 years, for MS. And only that! Very few side effects if any...so it's worth a shot in my book. My doctor is asking me to try it. I dropped off the prescription and will pick it up tomorrow for Low Dose Nalrexone (LDN).

How have you been doing on it Nancy?

@moorgrace...it's been about a week or so now and I don't have any bad side effects except for the expected interrupted sleep which should subside soon. I do feel more energy...and I do feel less pain in the areas that have been hurting. BUT...I've also been sick with a cold/flu this whole time so it's hard to know anything for sure yet. I have a prescription for it - however, it is not available at my pharmacy - it has to ordered online, paid with cash, and then fight the insurance company to get reimbursed. My script for 100 pills was $75.49 - seems expensive to me..can't do it. My doc was really not happy I wouldn't try it, pointing out $75 for 3 month script wasn't that bad.

So, I asked for Plaquenil and got it. I''ve been on it for a week and my symptoms are coming back (they started to go away on Prednisone). So disappointing.

no no no @moorgrace! It's not that simple, and it's not that hard either. What I mean is, there ARE pharmacies who will make it...has to be a "compounding pharmacy".
