I have suffered for 20+ years with TMJ ( including 2 horrible surgeries) and I also have mitral valve prolapse.It was suggested to me to join this discussion group to get any info you can offer on the MVP. This condition causes me to have anxiety attacks, irregular heartbeats,shortness of breath, and a "heaviness" in my chest. Can anyone relate? Thanks.

I forgot one MAJOR thing. I suffer big time from arthritis in my jaws due to the TMJ surgeries.I wish I had never had the surgeries....but, I could go on forever about that. Blah...blah...blah..HA!

Welcome sheltoesmom .. TMJ is no fun. I never had surgeries hough. Sorry you have the arthritis from it. I don't know about the MVP but I am sure others on here will be able to help you. huggies marilyn

Hi, i was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse a couple of months ago, although so far i have been told it is mild and they will just keep an eye on things.
I was having shortness of breath and irregular heartbeat, and found it very scary. Sometimes it would keep me awake all night. They have also found that i have some form of lung disease, but i am still waiting for the details.
Have you been given any medication? Have they mentioned surgery? Do you also have mctd?
Sorry you are going through all this. I can relate and it is a very scary thing. The doctor told me that lots of people have mvp and don't even know it. He said he probably does too. It depends to what degree that it causes major problems. Sorry i can't really help you more.
