Hi all,

My name is Cori and I'm new to the group. Feel free to check out my profile for more info.

I need new contacts and I'd like to try something different for my dry eyes (which I now know is due to Sjorgren's). I have been using ProClear Spheres for the last 4 years, but I haven't been tolerating them as well lately. FYI - I also have lower lacrimal plugs.

Tried contacts years ago with no success due to the dry eyes. Hope you can find something that works for you. There must be some new ones out there that are good.

I wear Sofmed contacts. I tried about 6 different types when I got new ones about 6 months ago, even the new Accuvue Oasys. The Sofmed were the best ones for me. However, I still can only wear them for about 4-5 hours at a time or they really start bothering me, and I only wear them at the most 4 days a week.

I'm currently trying Air Optix Night & Day Aquas (formerly Focus Night and Day). I'm getting up to 7-8 hours with lots of rewetting, but I'm still open to suggestions : )

Update: The Air Optix Day and Nights turned out to be the best for me. I can't wear them every day, but when I do, I can get 9+ hours out of them. They have the lowest water content of all the soft contacts which (paradoxically) means they need fewer tears to keep them moist.

I also started using Aquify rewetting drops, which I really like.

I clean my contacts with Clear Care, which I've used for years because it doesn't have preservatives and is the only cleaning solution my eyes can tolerate.

I realized the other day that all 3 of these products are made by CIBA, which makes me feel like they really understand dry eyes.

P.S. - The best daily disposable for me was Acuvue True Eyes (lowest water content), but they cost twice as much as other daily disposables and I didn't get nearly as much wear out of them as the Day and Nights.

I can tolerate mine most days...I just really like the convenience of the glasses. But, I think I use the Optix...i'd have to check. I know they changed them when I went back with my new diagnosis of Sjogrens.

I tried contacts years ago. Before illness. No go. My eyes produce too much protein. I think that is similar to dry eyes. Now my eyes are very dry. I use a borate eye wash to get the goo out and then i lubricate with artificial tears. If I remember to do this before bed and use the gel lubricating drops, I sleep better.

Have to wear dark glasses now cause of light sensitivity. contacts are way out.
