Hi everyone, I'm Samantha. I am 18 years old and am the girlfriend of a soon-to-be National Guardsman. My boyfriend of just under 6 months is leaving in August to be in the National Guard. We have been lnog distance for about 2 months already, since we both graduated the Job Corps. facility we met in. I try to visit him every other week for a couple of days. I live in Mass & he is in Connectitcut. I'm extremely nervous for him to leave because he's not only my boyfriend but my best friend. I've gone nearly 3 weeks tops without seeing him, always with near constant communication through phone calls and texts. I'm gonna be really worried about hin too. What can I expect in the upcoming months and does anyone have any words of advice or encouragement? It would mean a lot :)
All I can really say right now is practice your patience and giving yourself pep talks when life starts to test you with the distance. You’re going to want to know what’s going on with him and chances are he can only say so much because he’s going to be bombarded with service lifestyle. Practice patience with him and remember that he’s missing you as much as you’re missing him maybe even more since you still have family and friends around and he’s basically plunged into a new world without any friends or family. If you’ve been in a long distance relationship before he’s even enlisted then you’re half way there already.
I hate to sound like a broken record but patience patience patience. You’ll get to talk to your man and it’ll be the best feeling ever. Just try to stay strong and level headed for him. You got this girl!
