Welcome progressives! We can celebrate the beginning of the end of the prohibition of marijuana. Washington and Colorado are leaders in this movement and now we are free from prosecution in these states. I grew up in Indiana but now live in Washington where it is legal. This group is for everyone. People that smoke, people that don't. People that disagree, people...
For years, all we hear is how weed is evil, and that it's the gateway drug that sends us all spiraling into addiction.
I have a different view. For me, the gateway drug was booze. I was a bartender most of my adult life, and thankfully, I prefered weed to booze. Not that I didn't drink my share, cause I sure did, as well as doing many other drugs during my young wild days.
During my wild years, I experimented with recreational drugs, some of which I got attached to for a bit. In every case, I was able to get off drugs such as coke, by using weed. I consider weed a gateway drug that swings both ways. Booze has always been the first high most of us had. I see weed as the possible way for addicts and alcoholics to get relief, from a natural source, ie, weed.
Essentially, were it not for weed, I might be dead due to continued use of bad drugs. Like cocaine. but thankfully, weed helped me give up all the bad addictions I had when I was younger.

Booze is bad news. Everything you said was so true. I don't even like drunks. I'm sorry Having a drink or two or a glass of wine is one thing but getting blasted and rude and loud and sick is not mine idea of a good time. People want to say weed is like that. Those are the people who never smoked it or were drunk when they smoked it so it benefits were drown by booze.
THC is a very progressive chemical. It's calming properties can add in a person's withdrawal. Why do we feel people who go off drugs cold turkey are better and more likely to stay clean. Bullshit. Compassion is what helps. Give them something that is not physically addictive like pot to help when the DT's are happening. Do no harm. Drug programs do harm by stopping everything all at once. Even shrinks tell you not to do that so why in drug rehab. People who are coming off heroin are very fragile and need to wean themselves off.
Its so awesome that you stopped coke. You have self control. Maybe you are not an addict...which to me is a relative term since many non drugging americans drug themselves with consumerism and staring at their cell phones constantly because they can't just sit there on the bus..they have to be stimulated.
