I have going around and around with my mother and father over the treatment recommendations based on the substance abuse eval. that I had last Wednesday. They seem to have it fixed in their mind that I simply do not want help cause I am pretty nervous about treatment. I also hold a lot of resentment towards the my dean for making it a requirement. Granted I admit I told him in his office that I wanted to do something about it. Of course it is a bit different with me. It is not just marijuana but also benadryl overdoses to get high etc. My dean expects me to comply with treatment, but he is not telling me that he is going to kick me out of school if I do not complete the treatment. What he would tell me is this: If you don't want treatment, legally I can't make you. However, if you violate the code of conduct again. I will have suspend you from the college for a period of time. I feel this resentment on my part is not me fighting treatment, but rather normal to be angry or resentful.
I dont like the gigantic $ price tag they put on treatment programs.
You are young. I had a friend when I was young at age 13 she wanted to get high so bad. If she couldnt find any weed she would sniff fingernail polish remover. ten yrs later she overcame all her unhealthy obstacles. She became a highly educated professional soon after.
My other friend had a 14 yr old son end up in the hospital huffing gasoline with his friends. He died 3 times at the hospital but they saved him. A few yrs or so later he ended up with schizophrenia. At age 25 he was living in an institution, got a bad cold and died from overdosing on liquid cold meds that didnt jive well with his schizo meds.
You are at a crossroads in your life. Be thankful your parents really do care about you. You are lucky! They have likely seen many scenarios as I have so it is very understandable how they are acting.
I am glad you arnt addicted to other deadly substances. My best friend died from meth overdose 5yrs ago.
I am glad you have this forum to help educate you so you can make sound decisions and learn the dynamics of addiction. Check out the addictive personality group and read up on the quitting marijuana 30 day self help guide by OADE. All the educaton you can get on the subject matter helps you. Who knows maybe you will end up being a substance counslor for your profession.
If I wouldnt have chose a 30+ yrs pot career I could have had a much better life. Your parents just want the best life for you. The Dean also wants what is best for you. And of course this all upsets you understandably. We were all your age once. we can remember somewhat what it was like.
