This community is dedicated to those looking to overcome their addiction to marijuana, a drug produced from parts of the cannabis plant. Join the group to find support among people who are also looking to cease their habit of smoking marijuana, share your experience, and get advice. Since the AA book and AA 12 steps and 12 tradtions are sold at marijuana anonymous meetings, and the 12 steps started out originally for AA and have branched to other programs including MA, a lot of the literature is quite relevant to marijuana addiction IF you have an open mind.
In the AA book, it says in Chapter 3 something like "The great obsession of every abnormal drinker is to control and enjoy his drinking. Some pursue it into the gates of insanity or death. If you can do the right about face and drink like a gentleman, our hats are off to you. Heaven knows we have tried hard enough and long enough to drink like other people."
I find it much much much much much easier, in fact only possible, to abstain from pot, and alcohol for that matter, by abstaining COMPLETELY - not trying to moderate. I tried to moderate for many years and it didn't work.
How have your methods of control, trying to control your weed use, worked or not worked?

It's a very good book, geared specifically to Marijuana.
I wish I could enjoy the occasional toke & not think about it the rest of the time, but for me----NOT an option.
I also tried unsuccessfully for years. It wasn't until I admitted that I am an addict that I realized that "moderation" isn't an option. I had previously thought that I just needed to strengthen my "moderation muscles". However, the addiction and craving for more More MORE made these muscles just atrophy.
For me, as an addict, "marijuana recovery" previously only meant crawling around on the carpet looking for flakes of dropped weed to hopeful compile into a bowl. A linty, acrylic, dusty lungful of death. And now, thanks to the tools of this support group, and the tools from another support group I'm part of, Marijuana recovery means reclaiming my life! One half-day at a time!
i smoked it occassionally in hs, then stopped. then married and started smoking everyday for a few years and now im addicted as we say. and idk if moderation may be in my future, i just now its not in the cards right now. i know that for now, when i quit, it will have to be for a long while. maybe when i "grow up" some, but then again, maybe not. maybe ill never be able to do it again. of course i hope i can, but what i REALLY hope is that when i DO kick the habit is that im so happy i dont WANT to pick it up again.

Life With Hope book has been been around for many years.
I've been to many MA meetings and most people identify as addicts or marijuana addicts, some as addict alcoholics, I've only heard a couple people say "pothead" or "stoner". I always say "marijuana addict".
