Marijuana Addiction & Recovery Support Group
This community is dedicated to those looking to overcome their addiction to marijuana, a drug produced from parts of the cannabis plant. Join the group to find support among people who are also looking to cease their habit of smoking marijuana, share your experience, and get advice. It's not easy to kick the habit, but together we can.
Thank you so much for reaching out to me.
My friend who is a mental health counselor told me that if the craving gets bad not to just white knuckle it - she said to get up, go to another room and do something. That's my only line of defense at the moment!!
Hope you are doing well today. DAY ONE!! We got this!!
Day "2" lol . How are you feeling this morning? I am not too bad...I think it is because I cut back to one toke a day before going cold turkey yesterday. My withdrawals are not quite as bad as other times that I have tried to quit, however, they are still there. It is a bright sunny snowy day here and I think I will try to drag myself out for a walk. I have been cooped up in my home for a week now and I need to get out of here. I am hoping it will help clear my mind. I want to mention to you that I recently started to experiment with essential oils and they have helped me I a lot I think. Lavender seems to help sooth my nerves a bit and the peppermint helps my upset stomach. If you apply it to your skin be sure to mix it with your favorite carrier oil such as avocado or coconut etc. If you are not familiar with essential oils...google it and it will help explain their uses etc.
I am thinking of you and grateful to have someone to share this journey with me. I have NEVER had that before....too ashamed to let people know I have a problem. I am pulling for us both!!! Hang in there!!
I totally know what you mean about not having support on the journey from someone who GETS it! I have many great pot smoking friends who are supportive of me, but to have someone else trying to quit at the same time is so awesome. I've looked forward to coming here and seeing responses!!
I've not done too much with essential oils, but I can see where the lavender and peppermint would help - plus, I'm a "smell" person. I think I may even have some around here... I also forgot that peppermint discs can help with an unsettled stomach, so I may pick some up. Thanks for the reminder!
I am trying to keep journaling about this journey... pretty sure there are going to be some angry, miserable entries, but maybe it will be a way to get the frustration out ?? I'm also reading a book called "Recovery Dharma" which is based in Buddhist principles (rather than the traditional 12-step approach). I'm finding it interesting, as I have other behavioral addictions which are included. I also love Buddhist philosophy, so a win/win I hope! If I could go the 12-step route, I might... but in my experience I'm not sure a "pot addicted" person would be looked at the same way as someone with other substance abuse issues.
Hope you are hanging in there today!! DAY 2!!!
Thanks for the tip on the book "Recovery Dharma" I down loaded it and find it really interesting. I have always been intrigued by the Buddhist teachings.
How are you today? Still hanging in there? I am still smoke free but I have to tell you when I woke up this morning I was a tyrant lol The last two night have been been rough...not sleeping worth a dam and it is making me miserable, however as the day progresses it is starting to lighten up a bit.
I hope you are doing well,,,,I just wanted to check in and let you know I am progressing and to tell you I am pulling for you on this end.
Hope today is a little easier on us. Onward!!
Yesterday was a little better. I have started to take a mineral supplement because I understand it is suppose to help " calm the nerves" I am waiting for it to "kick in" lol. I slept a little better last night but I am very shaky this morning. I plan on getting out of house today at least for a bit ....I am not a winter person and I live in Canada ...go figure lol but I do love my Country so here I stay. I have also found that a little of my Ginger essential oil helps a bit with nausea.. you might want to try if your stomach is upset (or ginger tea). I am not going to lie.....I hate this!! ....but I know it is temporary and good things and a clear mind are ahead. You sound like you are doing pretty good and I am pulling for you. Keep in touch. I look forward to your messages
Thanks for the tip on Ginger essential oil and tea,
I can't tell you how excited I will be to pass a drug test! I bought a home kit so I can check it. I took one when I quit just to verify the tests would work; I'm looking at taking another one at the two week mark and then go from there. Smoking pot has prevented me from pursuing many jobs, and it feels freeing to know that quitting will allow me to do what I want. It keeps me motivated!
Hope you are doing even better when you read this.... now on to DAY 6! Proud of us!!
Well the side effects are starting to subside ...still sweating at night and not sleeping well but my stomach etc is starting to feel some relief. What I seem to be left with now are just plain old wanting to have a toke. I will not buckle under...this is mostly a head game now. I am enjoying reading the book you suggested "Recovery Dharma" and I feel it is and will continue to be of help to me very much. I feel for me anyway this was the best time to quit my habit because I have had the time over the last couple of weeks to let myself heal without too many outside influences. My work will take me out of house tomorrow (I'm a realtor) so I guess my entering the outside world is upon me. I feel I am ready to go ...I still a little shaky but like I said before "I am biting the bullet) lol. I hope this message finds you well and feeling better also. Like I said from here on in with will have to fight the demons in our head lol Talk soon and take care
I am still not smoking. Started taking CBD oil again a few days ago, but not noticing any drastic changes in my attitude, lol. It's really not that bad - just feeling a little grouchy and my tolerance for things is a little low. The longer I don't smoke the more I am not thinking about it as my go to for everything, which is amazing since I smoked all day, every day. I'll admit it's nice to leave the house knowing I don't smell like pot and that I don't have to think about people stopping by and smelling it. Trying to look at the bright side!
Hope you are doing well. Here's to DAY 9!!
Day 13 and going strong. I feel sooo much better. The physical withdrawals are almost gone and I am starting to drift off to sleep a little faster now but wow the vivid dreams I am having are crazy lol Have you experienced craziness in your dreams?
My daughter visited me yesterday and out of the blue she said "Mom you look really good today" It was encouraging to me to hear her say that...made me realize that I am breaking through my addiction and coming out on the other side. My appetite has not been the best so I have even managed to lose a couple of pounds.
I was glad to hear from you and I am proud of you. WE ARE ACTUALLY DOING THIS!!!! I have wanted this for so long. Good to hear from you ...together we are strong!!
I used one of my home tests... still positive for THC, I can't wait for it to be out of my system. I know it could take up to three months, just hoping it happens sooner than that.
Hope you are doing well.
