Lymphedema is a condition of localized fluid retention caused by a compromised lymphatic system. The lymphatic system (often referred to as the body's "second" circulatory system) collects and filters the interstitial fluid of the body. Lymphedema has been barely recognized as being a serious health problem; however, this is slowly changing due to education and awareness.

Is lympdema mostly common in Woman?

Since there is no male with such a problem does it mean that this condition normally affect women? Anyone?

My 15 year old son was just diagnosed with it, after 15 months of driving to specialist after specialist all over the state, all of them shrugging their shoulders. It is, I am told, much more common with women but men to get it as well. Best of luck to you!

Sorry for the shouting, just seems common because alot of brave woman who've survived breast cancer seem more at risk at getting it...

But there are guys who've got it from out of nowhere or sports injury...but still it is a rare thing to occur...sh*t happens...

I'm a 42 year old male with Lymphedema. right now, after 3 intense months of going to the VA (Veterans medical center) each week for leg wrapings/dressings, i am now at the compression stocking stage. I also use a Life touch Leg pump on my legs (since end of march 2010) The day i was diagnosed, the doctors measured my legs around the calf/shin area and they were 57 CM. Now, they measure around 26 CM. Also, i used to have large "nebulas" growing out of my legs that were leaking. Those have 95% dissapeared and my legs feel so much better. In fact, since i began treatment, just getting the blood flowing in my legs again, i have more energy and have lost over 20 lbs.

your story sounds encouraging. My leg seems to be growing bigger each year.

Keep up with . I hope to get hold of a flexitouch. My doctor does not even know about it.
And living in a country that is hot almost the whole year is making it difficult.
