Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. It is now one of the fastest growing infectious diseases in the U.S. Lyme disease is caused by infection with the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, and is primarily transmitted to humans as well as dogs, horses and other domesticated animals by the bite of infected ticks.
Hello group. I am new to this group, though have been on DS in another group. I happened to see Dr Neil Spector on a talk show recently. After listening to him and his own late finding of Lyme Disease, it makes me question myself. I am early in this process. I know I Iwork and try to be as normal as possible. I have various things that happen/ed with me. I haven't had the time recently to dig deep in this. I'm on 10 meds for different issues. My tiredness, exhaustion has been worse the past month- 6 weeks. I'm going to read Dr Spector's book. But, what type of provider is best to recognize/treat Lyme's if that is what I have. I just read a post of a couple web sites also. I've seen GI, Rheumatology, Primary NP, Endocrinology, Ophthalmology. This Chronic Lyme's Disease is new thoughts for me. I will continue to research and read Dr Spector's book. If anyone has any "pearls of wisdom" I am open to that. Thank you for your support (for a new-bie), Doolittle.
LLMD"S. Some of them may be naturopaths, practice homeopathics or regular doctors who have advanced training in treating Lyme. There is a group on the web, ILADS.org and if you put your zip code on their website, they will send you a list of LLMD's near your area. There is also a book which I ordered on Amazon, "Insights into Lyme Disease Treatment," 13 Lyme Literate health care practitioners share their healing strategies, by Connie Strasheim. I find this book to be very valuable because it details a lot of various treatments. One size fits all does not apply when it comes to Lyme. Some people may respond to antibiotics and others may do better with herbs and other treatments. Also, some conventional doctors deny that Chronic Lyme even exists. It is not always easy to find a good doctor who knows how to test and diagnose this illness. Some people come back negative on Lyme tests and still have it. This is not to discourage you. It is so you will know what questions to ask. We have all had to educate ourselves. The film which is out on DVD and I believe netflicks, "Under Our Skin" shows some of what goes on in 'the Lyme world.' Maybe you've seen it. I don't know what part of the country you're in. It's easier to find Lyme doctors in some places than in others. Some people have to travel to find a good doctor. Please, keep posting and asking questions. I trust you will find someone. Just to know, it may take some perseverance on your part. But it's worth it. Getting treatment is very important. Take good care.
