Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. It is now one of the fastest growing infectious diseases in the U.S. Lyme disease is caused by infection with the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, and is primarily transmitted to humans as well as dogs, horses and other domesticated animals by the bite of infected ticks.
tell one thing from another. I do know that with what's called Chronic Lyme, that people can be well for long periods of time and later have a recurrence. The important thing is that you have an appointment with your Lyme doctor coming up. Hang in there the best you can. Hopefully, he or she can shed some light on this. I wish you nothing but the best!!00
Following up on what Rosi has said, I have recently been diagnosed with Chronic Lyme/Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS). I initially got Lyme disease when I was 1 1 y/o. Since then I have been diagnosed with Mono twice, have injured myself many times, and have gotten colds/flus almost every month and I am only 16 years now. I was only diagnosed 2 weeks ago. In September when it all began with a little back pain... then my legs turned numb.... and so on. We thought I had a brain tumor. I was hospitalized and once they say I had no tumor, they treated me as if I was there for painkillers. It was awful. They forced me out of the hospital while my fainting and leg numbness was still progressing. I was is debilitating pain. I was then diagnosed with Lyme disease again..... 2 weeks ago I saw a new dr and he told me it was a false positive. My body continues to produce active Lyme antibodies when in a normal person's body would stop making the active antibodies and make a life-long antibody which would have no effect on a "normal" person. My dr explained it to me as every time I have a lot of emotional or physical stress on my body, I will relapse and get sick again. This was a breakthrough. I hope this information helps you and generates some questions you would like to ask your dr. Here are some of my symptoms that you may want to compare to yours. --
Fatigue
Nausea
Dizziness
Joint pain
Musculoskeletal pain
trouble concentration/focusing (almost a fogginess)
trouble sleeping
numbness + tingling in arms/ legs
neck pain
Malaise
Post-exertion Malaise
Heart Palpitations
Bell's Palsey
Depression
headaches
...
Cold/flu symptoms as well
has happened to you since you were 11. You sound like you have a lot of understanding of this illness. I was a bit confused when you said your new doctor said the test was a false positive? Did you have the Elisa test? I know that they say the testing is not really accurate. Most Lyme doctors diagnose you my the symptoms and some may use the
cd57 test also. Do you get treatment is really my question? Have you ever heard or read of the book, "Healing Lyme" by Stephen Buhner? It's available on Amazon and he has a more recent one out than this first one. He works with herbs. I have used some of his protocols when I worked with my naturopathic doctor. Were you tested for any of the coinfections? There is a lot of interesting information on his website also where he answers peoples' questions. I hope this is helpful also. take good care.
