Lyme Disease Support Group
Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne disease in the Northern Hemisphere. It is now one of the fastest growing infectious diseases in the U.S. Lyme disease is caused by infection with the Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, and is primarily transmitted to humans as well as dogs, horses and other domesticated animals by the bite of infected ticks.
I'm sorry to hear that your feeling worse. Herxing can be different for
everyone as far as the negative reactions and the length of time that
it lasts. I don't know if you have tried anything to help detox or not.
Detoxing does help me to get through a herx better.
I do hot baths in Epsom salt and also take the tincture Burbur.
Hang in there and just know you are on the right path and that it often gets worse BEFORE it gets BETTER.
Hugs from a fellow Lymie in maine
Thank you for your advice and support. What is tincture Burbur??
Here is a link where you can read all about Burbur, what it is and where it comes from as well as what it's used for.
Hope this helps.

I hope you feel better soon!
I am completely foreign to all of the Lyme disease lingo. What is a herx exactly? And what does the detoxing help with and do? Like I said I am new to the group and am looking for help to feel like myself again. I have done some research on it, but gave up after awhile because everything seemed to contradict itself and I didn't know what was true and what wasn't.

There are times when almost anything negative felt by a Lyme patient is called a 'herx'. It's been horribly over-used. But it IS real and for people that don't know to expect it they will stop their antibiotics when they start feel worse instead of better, at first.
In another post I suggested you read the info at www.ilads.org
Now, for another 'assignment' (grin) Google Tom Grier and read all his articles. Yes, I know you have your studies to attend to also----- but in the long run knowing as much as you can about Lyme disease is going to be one of the most important things you ever do in your life. No fooling.
The contradictions you read about, and there are MANY, are sometimes political. Sometimes they are different people voicing their opinion about how herbals and supplements can cure Lyme.
I'm in the camp that science based medicine is the only way. You will have to make up your own mind. If you do decide to go the herbal route, please look for proven studies in PubMed about that.
I'm only adverse to using herbs/supplement INSTEAD of antibiotics. Using them wisely in conjunction with antibiotics can be helpful at some times and for some people.
I did go and look at the website and printed off many articles to read and review. Thank you for the information! It is greatly appreciated!
They're the best place to start----- at least you'll get straight, scientific talk.
More questions are welcome anytime. (grin)
My doctor altered my medications briefly and now I am on the full dosage of antibiotics and feel about where I felt before I started the antibiotics. Which means I can function so that is good! I still have my epsom salts and lemons though.
I appreciate all of your help!
try to stop eating flour and sweets if you haven't already..that really does help....I hope you feel better soon
Meanwhile be good to yourself. You are ill even if it doesn't show.
The hot bath idea is good too. Treat yourself gently.
