To defend itself, the body produces more cytokines. Cytokines are normally good, but too much cytokines are inflammatory and it causes the pineal gland to get disoriented, "drunk", and the hormones are imbalanced (for example, low cortisol makes you feel fatigue, women may experience some complication(s) with their period, thyroid variations may bring weight loss or weight gain, ..)
That is why Lyme is multi-systemic, it is only one cause, the bacteria, but it affects different systems in the body, changing from person to person.
