Don't know what to expect

My son (soon to be 8 yrs old) was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in July. He was put on the 21 day round of antibiotics. He was still getting headaches and dizzy spells after the meds have completed. Is this something I have to expect for the rest of his life? His doctor told me that after the meds are done, he shouldn't have any symptoms.

Please try to find a Lyme Literate doctor for him ASAP. Any doc who thinks that one round of antibiotics should kill the infection, and that is that, isn't up on Lyme. No way should your poor son still have to deal with headaches and dizziness! There are also multitudinous co-infections that go along with Lyme and are not cured by the antibiotic used in the initial treatment. Please have him evaluated by another doc. The largest part of this community is here because of doctors' opinions like this one's, with treatment not long enough or aggressive enough. A lot of docs really don't have an understanding of how complex this disease is.

Becca is right... the doctor will make the difference. Your son should have a longer course more than likely. Do you know when he was bitten, and was he tested for coinfections? That is critical in his healing. Do you know how to find a lyme literate Dr.? Message me and I'll give you some tips if you'd like.

Good for your doctor in diagnosing lyme disease. That is sometimes a big hurdle. Your doctor is also right in that when the infection is gone he should not have any symptoms. But 21 days is not long enough to treat this bacteria. He needs a doctor that specializes in lyme disease.
Post your city and perhaps someone has a docotr recommendation near you. also look for lyme disease support groups in your area and ask them for docotr recommendation.

Dr. Jones is being attacked by the medical boards for treating young kids with Lyme you have to stay on top of this. They say Lyme goes away in 4 to 6 weeks and that's a big lie and if your not satisfied with your doc go to a LLMD if He still has symptoms he still has active Lyme. I went to 30 docs and 7 years before i went to a LLMD regular docs don't know how to treat Lyme because they don"t know much about it. If you go to underourskin.com order the movie and it explains the whole controversy with Lyme.

Good Luck and Don't stop treatments until Lyme is gone.
