What did he say to you when you asked for a lyme test? I plan to do the same for my 7 year old and I know im gonna get the "crazy" looks. Im pretty used to that anyways from my own doctor. My seven year old started getting feet pain when she was 3. The doctors just brushed it off as "growing pains" But then she start experiencing anxiety..other joint pains and exhaution after very limited amounts of play, and constipation. The pediatrician always had an excuse. But them after I was diagnosed with Lyme disease after suffering for 5 years with symptoms a litte light bulb come over my head...especially after I read an article about how lyme disease can lie dormant for years and then suddenly present itselt after PREGNANCY....hmmm

I have a post somewhere 'mad at my pediatrician.' My daughter has non specific symptoms but also is an irritable 3 year old with celiac disease. I wanted her tested because I'm thinking I've had lyme for a long time, my pregnancy with her was horrible, I was sick, tired and so depressed.
Anyway, the pediatrician looked at me like I was nuts, told me 'she would have swollen joints.' Then said 'I'm not happy about it but I'll do it' and gave me an attitude for the rest of the short visit.
I'd just ask matter of factly and go from there, your daughter definitely has symptoms...

Sadly the only lab you can really depend on for lyme tests is Igenex. Since you are going ot see your new Dr tomorrow, why not ask him about your daughter, and bring her test results. I had a result much like your daughters from LabCorp and Mayo lab. But when done at Igenex, finally, it came back double positive. Best to you as you begin treatment.

I agree that Igenex was the only lab that gave me a positive reading bcause I had it all my life mo other tests were picking it up. It took me 15 years of fighting to finally get a doctor that used Igenex and BINGO there it was. My daughter also has it and so does my husband. We all see the same doctor in NJ. I live in MD but was not satified with any of the doctors I found there so I was refered by several people to NJ.
Your daughter having Celieac Disease is another or could be another clue because alot of us with Lyme are Gluten Sensitive. Just make sure that you continue to do research and don't let them get you discouraged if you truly believe in your heart that she has it.

Get a new pediatrician. How awful that you have to fight so much. If you know what is right for your child, then you keep doing it.
I just had a lyme test done through Quest on Saturday. I am so afraid it is going to be negative. Are the numbers that you listed..that your 3 year old has....considered to be lyme? And the ped didn't tell you? How did you get the copy of your blood work?
I would like to get my copy and not just rely on the doctor. I learned that through my last experience. I had an MRI done a few weeks ago. The doctor told me that they found a non-specific brain lesion and she was not concerned. I picked up the result from where my MRI was done...just decided to stop by and pick it up... to find that lyme titer was a recommendation because of the lesion. The report also mentioned other things that the doc never told me. What is up with that?

KBR-I always ask the dr to fax the results to me. You have the right to request copies of any and all labs and tests done. When I switched to my LLMD, I asked for all my records for 2 yrs from the primary, cuz I had had a TON of tests done. So now I have a folder of all my stuff. The LLMD made copies of it all. Let us know what your results say!

Butterfly- I had test results VERY similar to your daughter from Labquest or is it Labcorp? Anyway, then did Igenex and it was positive. I think if any bands are positive, I would be highly suspicious. What did your new dr suggest? Hopefully he can interpret it for you.

My new lyme doc (Dr J in Germantown) said that her labs needed to be looked into. He suggested I call ILADS for a good lyme/ped in maryland. I left a message and emailed ILADS so will see what happens. If anyone can recommend a pediatrician with lyme experince in Maryland/Baltimore?

similiar story with my 11 year old. I know I was sick by 1999 and she was born 1998. never saw a tick on eithor of us. she had an incredibly stressful 4th grade year (bully that had been bothering her was tasered by a police officer whle my daughter watched and then they said the child was going to return to school. my dauhter started having nightmares and high blood pressure then leg pains started etc. Good news is she was positive on a regular labcorp test both elisa and western blot. since her our pediatrician has started testing more and more children and the health department called the pediatrician in a vry accusatory tone and asked her why she was diagnosing so many children with lyme. and the pediatrician said because that is what the symptoms appeared to be and that is what the diagnose proved to be true. She then said - well you have an epidemiology dept so why dont you figure it out. (supposedly lyme's not in florida but that is changing because we are getting more and more Drs to run the tests. (I have lyme too FYI)

I am so glad to read this. I just had my three year old tested. Unlike most, our primary care doc was totally fine with it (her and I though have a very close relationship and she's been our family doc since I was a teenager!) she called to say it was negative but something just nags at me. I dont have anything specific to go on, but something just makes me think it's not the end. I also have a 6 month old boy and the doc had said since my daughter was negative, no sense in testing him, but I don't know, I dont think I am comfortable with that and think I should have him too. What should I ask for? What results do I need to request to see? Do you have a choice in lab or do they use their own? Thank you!

I spoke to our current pediatrician about the result. She said that a positive IGG/IGM band 41 is very common and doesn't have to be due to lyme. My daughter doesn't have symptoms (irritable/tired but age 3 in full time daycare). I asked her if we could just repeat the test (maybe with a new lab) at her 6 month celiac check up in March and she said "I'd be happy to."
It's awful but I kind of feel like I have enough to deal with right now without looking for things wrong with my kids....KorkerMom, I'm not 100% sure which tests and where so I'll be interested in replies for following up with next labs.
As an aside...is it possible she got the WB41 antibodies because she was exposed in utero but not actually infected??

lyme testing is so inaccurate. Sadly it is hard to know for sure. If your gut says to fllowup then i'd have a test done thru igenex.
band 41 is common to lyme and syphillis. It is the most likely to show up on a lab test. my band 41 was the only one to show up. my igenex test lit up like a light bulb and even found DNa of the bacteria in my blood rom the PCR test.

It is worth your peace of mind to have an igenex test.

Don't EVER put up with an attitude from ANY care provider. Let them know you won't then move on to a new one. They're not gods and all too often need reminding of that. You put your child first. Step on toes.

Band 41 showed up on me too, but the lab report said it was a negative test b/c they wanted 5 bands to be positive, so my primary would not treat me. Over a year later I finally had an Igenex test and like has already been said, it was SUPER positive, being double positive on the IgG and single positive on the IgM. I have heard the same, that band 41 usually means lyme. I would follow up with an Igenex test. www.igenex.com. You can call them and they will send you a test kit. I just ordered three today for my daughter and grand kids, they have been getting a run around so we are just going to pay out of pocket and get the only test that works anyway!
