Hi-I was diagnosed with Lupus in 1993 and have been on Plaquenil,Pred.,and Mobic. Besides the joint pains, fever at times, and fatigue, I have been lucky because so far I haven't had any organ involvement. But I have one symptom that I wanted to see if anyone else gets it. At times, my face will turn bright red, and burn like a bad sunburn. It usually lasts a few hours and then doesn't look so bad. It is especially bad if I am doing anything that I have to exert myself, and especially outside. I just finished mowing my lawn and although I will regret it tomorrow, I really didn't have a problem with it, except with my face. It is bright red and burning. I would understand if I were working so hard that I was out of breath like running in a race or doing something really tiring, but I took my time and did it really slow. But here I am looking like a tomato. Does this have anything to do with the lupus rash or is it something else? I know it's not hot flashes-they are a totally different feeling. Hi kshort49. I get the "red" face too and I think it definetly has to do with auto-immune disorders. I have multiple ones, so can't say for sure which is what. My face gets red, especially in the area that gets refered to as the butterfly rash area accross nose and cheeks. But at times my whole face is red. The worst times are after exerting myself, or taking a hot bath, jacuzzi or something like that. I also get the hot flashes, and yes that is totally different.

So, to answer your question, in my opinion, I think it is related.

the sun is not good for anyone with lupus or any AI disorder, try wearing a hat and lots of sunscreen, and avoid the sun as much as possible.

Hi-dadsgirl-that is exactly what happens. And it doesn't matter whether I a inside or out. Sometimes, I will be in bed reading, and feel my face burning. When I look in the mirror, it is bright red again-sometime during the night it goes away, usually.

Brunob-I usually don't go out in the sun, unless absolutely necessary. But if I do, it also triggers the burning feeling. It's wierd, because my face seems to be the only place that is sun sensitive. I get this all the time. For me it doesn't matter if I am in the sun or inside. Just walking up the stairs I will get the bright red face (usually across the nose and cheeks).

Good to know I am not the only one. Hubby was asking me the other day why my face was red all the time now?

Hi my red face doesn't go away until summer is over.It is really bad. Very red and itchy and it peels too. Once the sun is gone it is gone. I had an ANA test and it came back positive but I have to wait until August to see the Rheumy!
