Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
Try a compress soaked in hot water with epsom salts, or better yet immerse the ulcer in hot water with epsom salts for a half hour twice a day. If it's an infection, it will improve. If it's not an infection, it will do no harm.
This is a method commonly used to treat infections before the antibiotics took over things. I got this from a doctor, didn't dream it up or anything. He told me to make the water as hot as I could stand it. Use a few tablespoons of epsom salts in a bucket or basin of hot water.
My guess...if it hurts, it's infected. Watch your body temp and be on the lookout for red lines leading away from the sore spot. Get a doctor to look at it right away if anything like that happens.
Another suggestion...go to a wound care clinic if there's one near you. Most doctors are not that good at treating wounds and ulcers of the skin. At the wound care clinic they might treat it with xeroform dressing.
So if you're on any medications you might want to look up their side effects online to see if there's anything about skin necrosis.
