Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
The pain am in right now wont be cured by changing my diet.
Let me ask everyone who keeps posting these "cures": don't you think that the LEGITIMATE doctors would have picked up on this diet if it WORKED? Study after study has been done on the influence of diet on lupus and this is what has been found:
1) Alfalfa sprouts can cause Drug Induced lupus and flare in some SLE patients.
2) Nightshade vegetables can cause flares in some patients.
3) Fish oil can help most patients.
That's it. There is no sense in sending this woman your money. Do you trust your rheumy? Do you think your rheumy is keeping a cure from you? That this is some big conspiracy of the drug companies or the hospitals? It's not.
I dare any of you to ask your rheumy face-to-face if he/she is part of this so-called conspiracy and if he/she is keeping the ultimate cure for lupus from you to make money? Sounds pretty silly when you break it down that way.
And good for you Ann for putting your faith in the people who actually STUDY the disease and know medicine.

I agree with Ann, Tracy & Earth....For the people who are lurkers and dont really post, my rheumy is chinese. Speaks with broken english. Not an american Chinese and I have had this conversation with him because I WANT to get better so badly. as willing to try anything (and did try stuff that made me sick and flare)He is the one who advised me to STAY AWAY from certain herbs/supplements because they are not FDA regulated and can actually be dangerous for us taking while having an AI disease. He literally laughed when I told him all the "Cures" that were being marketed for Lupus and said exactly what Tracy said.....If there was a cure for lupus, or something that helped it, they would know about it and suggest it to all their patients. There is no conspiracy going on. A diet is a bit different. If your interested in trying to eliminate certain things, go for it. You will either feel better or no better at all. Shana, I hope you feel better on the diet but I wouldnt give up your meds too quickly because if the diet stops working, youll have to start all over again calming down your body.
There must be something going on in the air because this same conversation is going on in my APS group...People are posting that green tea is toxic, peanuts, a list of things..None of which I have heard. Meanwhile, the ones I know to be triggers arent even mentioned in the lists...Hmmm.
Not sure I could go without my gluten! However, since you find it helped, thats great! Keep us posted!
Take Care
