Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
On immunosuppresants, how careful do you have to be about sick people? I am around a lot of sick people, and that is one reason that I am so hesitant to do the immunosuppresants... I am on plaquenil and IVIG at this time, but teetering on the verge of adding an immunosupressant (I think Imuran is what they are talking about). I also have little kids, so i worry, as they bring home illnesses/germs a lot. The whole idea makes me nervous!
So far this has kept me from getting sick much. I use to get sick a lot more when I worked in a busy office environment sharing germs, it could have also been from stress.
I carry around Handi Wipes and avoid shaking hands. Also always wipe down grocery carts.
My daughter and her family stay away when they're sick. She had Swine Flu a few years back and I didn't catch it.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...especially with Lupus
