Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
I've discovered from my research about lupus-related anemia that 10 percent of lupus patients develop AIHA (autoimmune hemolytic anemia), and there are rare cases (in which you may be one), circulating plasma factors tell the bone marrow to turn off the production of red blood cells. The end result of this slow-down or shut-down of the bone marrow, termed hypoplasia or aplasia. This usually reflects active disease, and corticosteroids or cytotoxic drugs are necessary. A careful drug history should be taken, since many prescription drugs can occasionally cause aplasia. I don't think the last sentence applies to you, but it does seem as if sle and prca may be related in some way. I hope this information helps you out...
