Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
In case anyone is interested, rapid heart rate is called tachycardia in medical jargon. Doctors always feel a sense of control when they have a name like that to hang on a symptom. Of course that doesn't do the patient any good.
I often have tachycardia. I just ignore it, and so far nothing serious has come of that. That might not be the best course of action, but it's more or less all I've got. It used to really get me upset, but I guess I just got used to it since then.
When was the last time you had your thyroid tested?
I have this (sinus tachycardia) when my thyroid acts up. I have Graves hyperthyroidism that is in remission (mostly). And it can happen when my period is due. The excess hormones aggrivate it.
First things first, make sure you're not dehydrated-- if you think you may be, drink some water or gatorade and lay on your left side and rest.
So long as your heart is not out of rhythm and you're not experiencing any other symptoms, don't panic. It's sinus tachycardia.
Your heartrate can speed up for a variety of reasons, high blood pressure, fever, pain, illness, etc but it's best to get your doctor's opinion just to be on the safe side.
Till you can get in to see the doctor, try keeping hydrated and rest.
I've been through this many times and I know how unsettling it can be. Take good care of yourself and I hope it gets better soon. :)
I would tell your doctor about it, but there's really not a lot they can do about it. They might order an EKG to see your heart rhythm, but unless it's happening when you get the EKG done there probably won't be anything weird on it.
It's absolutely not from multiple clicking.
Thanks for all the replies. You all are terrific!
