Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

Has anyone else experienced these things with their Lupus? Trying to figure out if it's the Lupus or something else going on....

The following may have nothing to do with your situation, but thought I'd mention them just in case it pertains to you. I used to get headaches in the back of the head whenever my glucose levels dropped, but very seldom experience them now because I carefully watch "how" I eat. Regarding the vertigo, I have one friend with Meniere's Disease and another with vertigo. The one with Meniere's controls hers by avoiding sodium in foods such as luncheon meats. And the other has improved on a gluten-free diet. Hope you figure out what's causing yours.

I am currently waiting for my test results for Lupus and RA. I got a back-of-head headache a year ago that has never went away. I usually have it at about a 2 or 3 on the pain scale and then have waves of 8 that lasts for days or weeks!! My PCP and Neurologist can't figure out why, but with many new symptoms, my PCP just had me do blood tests for RA and Lupus earlier this week. I would love to know if this back-of-head pain is common in Lupus.

I started seeing my doctor for vertigo, but as time passed my vertigo wasn't going away as fast as it should have. He sent me to a neurologist and ENT. The neurologist sent me for extensive bloodwork and MRIs which is what resulted in my SLE diagnosis. I still have bouts of vertigo. It is awful.

Look at the side effects of your meds. I had a headache for 6 months. My dr sent me to the dentist, the ENT, and a neurologist. One night, I saw a commercial for Nexium. Main side effect is headache. No nexium, no headache! Now, all those Drs could not figure it out. The ENT told me to see my dentist and a neurologist. The dentist said to see the ENT and neurologist and the neurologist told me to see the other 2. Sheesh!

Dizziness and headaches are very common with Neurophytropic Lupus. My son was diagnosed with SLE at age 19, he had been experiencing dizziness and headaches for many years, when he was out of state in graduate school he finally found a neurologist that diagnosed him with Neurophytropic SLE, which means his form of lupus involves the central nervous system. Essentially what happens is the blood vessels and nerves in his head and face get inflamed and cause the headaches, numbness and dizziness just as joints and tissue does in the rest of our bodies. The neurologist worked with his rheumatologist they started him on a low dose blood pressure medicine and adjusted his immunosuppressant got him on a new one that controls his disease much better. It's been a little over a year and his headaches and dizziness is well managed. I hope you will find a solution soon and start feeling better. Hugs
