Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
I also follow a pretty strict SCD diet as well.. it helps immensly.. I also take Lyrica for my nerve pains (They aren't in my stomach however)...
Good luck!
Things that have helped me are a gluten-free diet (sometimes grain-free), avoiding all artificial sweeteners and too much refined sugar, eliminating as many environmental toxins as possible, and taking lots of supplements. Regarding the elimination of many environmental toxins, I make my own deodorant, use Kirk's castile soap, and often clean with baking soda, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide. Helpful supplements have been Vitamin D3, magnesium citrate, Lauricidin, and InflamericZyme. Lastly, I've started consuming fermented foods, such as kimchi, sauerkraut, sourdough bread, and kombucha, along with fermented pickles, carrots, etc.
Be proactive about your health. Do research and ask your doctors lots of questions. In fact, it helps to write them down so you can take them along for appointments. Keep a food & health log to see if there are any foods that trigger symptoms. Best wishes to you for finding things to help.
Have you found that plaquenil helps or bothers your GI system?
My doctor has mentioned trying that medication; but I've read it can bother the stomach.
It is very interesting to me how it seems lupus patients have different symptoms and yet some the same. In the beginning of all this an ER doctor thought I had crohns as well; but I don't. I will definitely look into the supplements you suggested nanny1611; I also clean with vinegar because I can not tolerate strong smells.
One thing I can say that is a huge huge help for me is a probiotic. I got myself connected with a good one that fits me & I take it religiously every day. I also take a digestive enzyme once a day. I've also learned that the more I stick to purer simpler foods vs ready made frozen, heat & go stuff. It's been quite a learning time but to me the feeling better is worth trying to do as much fresg cooking & meals as I can.
