Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
I had my hearing on Friday and, long story short, I WAS APPROVED!! I am so excited, relieved, grateful, and have been on cloud 9 ever since. I also did not need to testify which was just an answer to my prayers since I was most fearful of my memory issues, my cognitive issues especially trying to find the right words to use and how tearful/emotional I have been lately. It worked out so well and now it is done and I can focus on my health and my family and not have this huge stress haanging over my head. It has been a long road - 3 years - and I am just so relieved I somehow mustered up the stregth to get through it though I wanted to give up many times.

I just got approved in June and got my back pay in July. I actually got my medicare card in the mail today.
I am so happy for you and know what you mean about being on cloud 9.
Now....do something extra special for yourself.

[ I know because I'm still waiting for my hearing, and my lawyer says it might be another year, and I'm terrified of testifying, too. And the weight of that is almost as bad as being sick.]

I just wanted to share one thing I learned for those still in the application process. I have anxiety every day, occassional panic attacks and sporadic depression and none of that was considered by the judge because I was treated by my primary care physician instead of a psychologist, therapist, etc. Fortunately, I had enough other issues that it did not negatively impact my case. So anyone that has any of these issues listed on their application, I would suggest you see a mental health professional so that they can evaluate you and complete SSI forms. That way the jusge will consider it during the hearing. If anyone has any other questions, feel free to email me. Good luck!
