All I know is this was something brought up on the MCTD site a few years ago. Multiple people complained of having a broken thermostat with temps that are too high or too low all the time. As a nurse, temps do fluctuate throughout the day. Usually lower first thing in the morning and the highest being 4-6 PM. Try taking it throughout the day and see what you get, but be aware that this does seem to be an autoimmune issue.

Since lupus and polymyositis, my body temp always runs low. However, I have had it begin to drop even lower, and was told that this is cause for concern. So be sure to see a doctor if it goes any lower. One doctor (or nurse) told me that it can be a sign that body systems/organs are shutting down. Someone in the ER said that a temp too low is more serious than a temp too high. Don't mean to scare you, but don't wait too long. Best wishes.

I have Lupus, THYROID DISEASE, and other a/i issues. Let me point something out to you, k? I saw where you were sleeping 16 hrs per day. And you said you had your thyroid tested...what are your numbers? I know quite a bit about thyroid disease and I can tell you from experience normal tests don't equal normal for YOU. It took me almost a year to get my thyroid optimized, but it happened. I think I can help you, but I need you to post or message me your thyroid tests like this:

Free T3 Range Result
TSH Range Result

My guess is you need a med increase, but to be sure, I need to see those labs.

Hi Butterfly, Yes I understand about thyroid too, been dealing with it for several years. I will try to find those recent numbers for you, and you are correct, there is a scale to the numbers, so it is different for everyone. I don't know if I mentioned that I had my thyroid removed in 2013, and it also took me about a year to get the levels right. Let me get back to you on the numbers. Thanks so much.

General Comment : Not Fasting

Ok, so let me explain something first - there's "normal in range" blood tests and there's "normal in range for me" blood tests. In all my experience, and from reading the "expert" studies/books/textbooks *most* people feel well with a TSH of 1 or below, and a Free T4 of 60% of range or above and a Free T3 (which I see they did not run) of 50% of range or above. Anything below that and we tend to feel "wired and tired" or just plain exsanguinated.

Your labs are as follows:
TSH of 2.57 - That's waaaay too high. It's a sure sign that your thyroid is under attack. If mine was that high...I wouldn't be able to get out of bed.

Your Free T4 is at 45% of range. That's below what *most* people would feel well at.

You need an increase in your thyroid meds pronto. Your thyroid is starting to dial down the amount of Free T4 it's producting (per your labs) and your brain is screaming for more (per your TSH lab) but won't get it because your thyroid isn't functioning properly.

Visit your doctor again - take a friend or family member if you need to - and use the words "I am not functioning and I need more thyroid meds - what's the harm in letting me try them". Push firmly but gently until you get them.

My body temp varies both ways sometimes, a small amt but never anythiing drastic. I also have issues with my blood pressure tending to be below normal but again not drastically. I monitor both very carefully & if I can help them along thru life style adjustments during that moment in time then thats the way I go.

Nothing beats a proper lifestyle.

Geez, I can't believe you're walking around AT ALL.

Your Free T4 is sitting at 19% of range! You should be *at least* at 60% of range. And you're TSH is at the top of the range and waaaaay over 1.

You need treatement (increase in meds if you're already on them or starting meds if you're not).

However, you may have to call your physician (face to face...not on the phone unless you get to talk to the doctor directly) because according to the ranges you gave me it's "within range" eventhough its at the very bottom and the very top. Most docs simply scan the lab sheet for things that are out of range, so it most likely got missed. Sometimes, it's not even the docs who scan it...but an assistant of some sort.

If your doc refuses to treat you, go to someone else and push gently but firmly until you get treatment. You cannot afford to be complacent.
