I am far very far from a doctor of course. But have they checked for blood in your urine? My meds can make this order with me if I don't drink a real good supply of water daily. And when I am tired water, I dring cranberry juice. The kind with different flavors mixed with it. I'm not a fan of it, so do drink what I need to I keep a plastic glass of it in the freezer. When it is just at the slushy stage, it is alot better to drink/eat. Good luck with this, hugs & snuggles, Rachelle

hi there..sorry you are having this problem.I have had this as well for years.alot of times if your urine is dark,it can be you are just not flushing with clear fluids enough,and it can be blood as well. I have chronic hematuria,which is blood in urine or the docs may say you have red cells,which means the same thing.You having diabetes too,I wouldn't beable to answer on that.maybe to put your mind at ease,get a urinalysis.Some doctors will allow this as a"nurse" visit.hope you feel better soon! oh yes,and powerades are great for this too,don't know if you can drink these or not due to your diabetes..but they help me.

Honey.. try something real simple for me. Drink more water.

When toxins build up in our bodies from too many meds or processed foods, an odour is released from our skin and urine can go dark. Something as simple as drinking more water can sure help! Give it a try for a couple of days and see it if helps. :-))

Thanks everyone for your helpfull ideas. I just dont get the urine thing because even my dr tells me to drink more water he keeps forgetting that I live on water. I am lucky that I do really like water...we have good well water and i have a big mug of ice water at my side at all times and if I leave the house i take bottled water with me. I even gave up cafiene 25 years ago. Drs are even shaking thier heads at this one. But these constant uti's are miserable...along with the odor coming out of my pores. I will try to drink more water but my back teeth might be floating when I am done. lol

LOL Sounds like you are drinking HEAPS of water already honey! :-)

Its a puzzling one... I would like to hear what is causing it. Have you tried a de-tox?

Be sure to have your liver enzymes checked regularly. That can cause dark urine . Especially if you start feeling itchy all over or yellowish around the edges. If the urine is brighter yellow, it can be from B vitamin supplements. That said, I've just recently started to stink when I exercise a lot. I don't really sweat, but my skin feels sweaty (without the moisture). And it seems foul-er than regular BO. I always shower afterwards these days. Always new surprises....

I do not have lupus but my husband does. He hasn't taken meds in years. He does have an odor about him occassionally and his urine is always dark with an odor. His RA doctor says it's a normal occurance with lupus.
He has never had a UTI but it is possible because your immune system is down.

Lately he has had problems with is head swelling. The doctor can't figure out why. He has had a cat scan but it showed nothing.

A foul odor from the urine is more of a signal of a UTI not lupus. Dark urine probably means your not drinking enough water. If you are, then I would see a doctor about it because that is abnormal. Plus its not good for your body to be dehydrated. I have noticed an off smell before but very rarely, only if I sweat and I hardly do that. I am never in the heat and hardly work out because I am so tired.

I have had lupus 4 12 yrs now and only notice that when I sweat I smell the pills that I take potassium, as far as urine I say drink more water,tea and cranberry juice,Tina

Thank you everyone for your input....I have followup visit with my ra dr this week and I will be getting lots of tests results and I will be discussing all of this with her. Its all kind of knew to me even though I have seen my daughter thru alot of it for a few years now its very diff when you are main caregiver for your family members and have most of the responsibilities in the family and around the house therefor cant afford to be slowed down with all this stuff. Very frustrating...hopefully dr will have some answers and better treatment this week. Thanks again and hugs to everyone!

I notice that the urine changes with vitamins too. It also changes with the foods I eat (especially I have noticed this with asparagus)

mommycares...BIG HUGS!!! I know EXACTLY what you mean. I hate that the most about this disease-that it slows me down and doesn't allow me to take care of my family the way I'd like to. And you have so many depending on YOU.

BTW,My pee smells bad often(ewwww), and I get UTI's constantly even when I drink water/cranberry....no idea why. I am new to all this too.

Sometimes my urine smells like fish, I know that sounds weird but its true, and its worse if I do eat fish, I have tried everything except douching, and that's not possible with all of my joint problems, it seems to never end, any good suggestions folks
