Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.
The main focus of the Chinese approach was supporting the liver, which Chinese medicine considers a very important organ. She took milk thistle and other liver medicines as part of her regimen.
She made dramatic improvements and that's why she wrote the book. Of course authors often make that claim and it's only one person with lupus. But still, I thought a lot of what she wrote made a lot of sense. She herself said that she was only sharing her own experience with lupus.
Her experience with conventional medicine in Canada was a disaster for her, they all but told her she wasn't going to make it. When she got off all her meds and went home to die, she started getting better.
I'm sorry...I can't remember her name. I got the book at the library and they don't seem to have it anymore. Our library is a little strange...books disappear from the shelves and catalogs.
Anyway, the TCM approach emphasized the liver as a focus for lupus treatment...so I guess it's involved somehow.
