Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

Honey, if you are on steroids you may need to increase them for 5 days. If your not on them, you may want to call your rheumy and see if you should go on a steroid pack. This can help you feel better and prevent a flare up. You also shouldnt be taking your cellcept or MTX (any major immuno suppressant) while you are sick.
So everyone knows who is on steroids, when your fighting a virus/cold/infection your body normally produces more steroids. If you have been on steroids for a while (and its especially important if you have been on 10mg or higher) your body stops producing the steroids on its own which is a key to our survival. Its a hormone that we have to have at least 10mg of daily (which your body normally produces). When you get sick and your body isnt producing the extra steroids on its own, we need to supplement it if we take them orally. I did not know this for a long time while I was on them. My GP is the one who told me about this issue when I was really sick last year with bronchitis. The lack of proper steroids makes us sicker, can trigger a flare up and causes more stress on our bodies. The lack of the proper steroids in our body wacks out our entire system. Just wanted to pass this on to others who may not know about this issue.
Hope you feel better soon and make sure you call your rheumy if you dont feel better by monday. You may need antibiotics.
