Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

Hi folks,
One of the many offshoots of Lupus that I have is Inflammatory Polyarthritis (aka. arthritis) which affects EVERY SINGLE JOINT IN MY BODY. Seriously, no exceptions. Really frustrating, cause it often moves around, but most affected are: neck, jaw, spine, hips, hands and wrists. I'm looking for alternative therapies for the pain. I take a lot of medication, including pain killers already and would prefer not to add to it. I walk every day for at least 1/2 an hour (on top of the regular walking I do) and try to get as much sleep as possible. I've tried yoga in the past which has helped, but right now I'm looking for the quick fix to a flare up (my wrists are killing me right now). Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks folks.

Some things that have helped my pain are a gluten-free diet, avoiding artificial sweeteners and most refined sugar, along with some supplements (Lauricidin and InflamericZyme). Also, I sometimes use moist heat on my wrists and/or wear wrist wraps. There are also natural products, such as Molly Brown's Omega Pain - http://www.mollybrowns.net/id71.html - which use essential oils. I agree with tamiangus regarding anti-inflammatory foods. Hope you find things to help you. Best wishes.

Also, I think exercise does help, such as swimming or yoga. Extra sleep/rest helps for me too. I take a 1000 mg Vitamin C pill a day, and I think it helps me overall. Too much sun does give me a flare-up and arthritis.

Thanks folks. I've been reading up on an anti-inflammatory diet and am looking into a yoga class. I'm hoping lifestyle changes help over all. I'll have to try heat and wrapping and see if that helps for the quick fix. And I take vit D, C, Calcium, B12 and cod liver oil supps all to help my body fight inflammation (and other meds that deplete them). *fingers painfully crossed*

I also use something called Jointlube, that has glucosamine and chondroitin and feverfew, which is an anti-inflammatory.

When I read up on glucosamine, I understood it was more for a non-anti-inflammatory arthritis??? I didn't think it would help the type I have. Am I misinformed?
