Lupus Support Group
Lupus is an auto-immune disease in which the immune system cannot distinguish between threats (like viruses and bacteria), and healthy cells and tissue. As a result, the body produces antibodies that inflict cell damage, most commonly targeting joints, skin, kidneys and the nervous system. Join the group and find support for coping with lupus.

Hi, I was diagnosed with lupus in 2004ish.
It is all pretty much under control.
However, unrelated to this (I assume) I have blocked tubes and have since had a tubal ligation to increase my success chances for IVF
This is very difficult and the infertility support group on this site is very helpful, however I still feel a little alone in my struggles because the women I meet do not struggle with Lupus also.
I am understandably concerned about the risks of miscarraige due to my lupus should IVF work in the first place,
If I found someone who has experience of both Infertility/IVF and lupus I would love to hear from them.

I was diagnosed after my 30th birthday and experienced a 2nd trimester loss with natural conception. I successfully conceived my son through IVF. He was a preemie (due to my preeclampsia) and in the NICU for 8 weeks but he is perfect now (he will be 13 months on Saturday). I was able to stay on plaquenil but not the naproxen as some research says NSAIDs can interfere with implantation in the 1st trimester and be passed onto the fetus in the 3rd trimester. I actually felt really good while pregnant (they say this happens often) but did have a hard time afterward as hormones caused my symptoms to flare up. Overall it was a good experience and he is so worth everything I went through. I would be happy to help and support you anyway I can. Good luck!!

I knew I had serious health issue did not know it was going to be as bad as it is at the time even had I been diagnosed. I did not have ivf but I had polycystic ovary disease and my husbands sperm count was almost nonexistent what he did have were misshapen and slow we made jokes. We wanted a baby so bad. Specialist said with everythingit was not going to happen 12 years after we started trying and had cried even though I told everyone I knew God would give me,a beautiful blonde blue eyes boy in a dream. I am not nuts I just wanted one so badly and I always had faith it was easy to take this dream for gospel. My husband went with it at first but the longer the time went and the more odd i got as i started to believe i would not have a baby. He got pretty worried. My best friend since i was 9 had not married right out of high school like me she went to college and worked on her career. In our early 30 s she got married for our redneck families she was an old maid so she wasted no time stopping the birth control to start a family she was afraid she would end up infertile from taking them so long. A few months later my mom was afraid to tell me my friend was already pregnant because I was a little fragile. I was happy for her. I kept hoping. We delivered baby boys exactly two months apart after 12 years of trying even the doctor thought my blonde haired blurted boy was a miracle. Point is infertility sucks when you add illness to it it can be horrible but man it really makes you appreciate your child when you have one in a special way. Jokes were made that it was good he was spitting image of his dad. I was never able to get pregnant again but it did not matter we are happy with what we were given. If I had not conceived I was working through it and we planned to adopt once our finances were a little more solid and we took a few foster children we kept until their parents got them back and we would have been happy anyway. Long story not helpful except in context of it's rough but things will be ok.
