Cyberknife Therapy

After a round of chemotherapy, we found that my husband's cancer has spread to a lymph node in his lung close to his air passageway. This is causing a severe chronic cough. His oncologist recommended radiation therapy. Today we speak to the radiation oncologists as to whether he's a candidate for Cyberknife therapy or conventional radiation. Has anyone had Cyberknife therapy? I understand that it's only available in a few places in the United States.

I am also interested in cyberknife. You can go to: cyberknife.com and go to the patient forums and ask a professional for advise. I actually called a cyberknife facility and talked to a doctor.

My prayer will be with your husband Leslie.......My name is Denise, my best friend Jim age 61, also was found to have cancer on lymph nodes. Same discussion about knife.....I'll keep in touch as well. God Bless Us at this time. And if you know the lord as I do, you know His will be Done.

We found out that my husband is not a good candidate for Cyberknife because of the location of the lymph node. He will start conventional radiation. From the explanation the doctors gave us on Cyberknife, it seems to be the way to go if all the circumstances are right. The treatment can take only days instead of weeks. Hopefully, when this round of treatment is over, we won't have to experience anything else.

Julie, if you are a candidate, I would definitely pursue the Cyberknife treatment.

Don't think my friend would benefit from this either as his in the lymph nodes also. He's just finished 5days of radiotherapy treatment but have to wait till he sees his doc to see if it's done him any good. His cough seems to have got worse since having it.
Leslie it looks like your husband is much the same as my friend,will be thinking of you through all this as this is not easy for us both.

Yes - I definitely want to pursue CyberKnife. Going to the surgeon soon - since cyberknife isn't covered by my insurance. See what he can suggest or maybe if he agrees with me that I am a candidate he could appeal to the insurance to let me go for CyberKnife since it will be cheaper than what my insurance covers. We shall see in 3 weeks - I will keep you posted. I am sure the first thing he will want is a biopsy done (needle biopsy) which really scares me!
