I am new to this group, as recently my spouse has been diagnosed with a large mass on his lung.
He had a CT scan of his head which is clear and a pulmonary function, breathing test
Also he had a PET scan of his body which highlights possible cancer.
The CT scan was clear and the PET scan showed that there wasn't any other cancer other than the lungs.
The large mass is approx. 2 1/4 and also 2 nodules less than l cm. or less than 1/2 inch.
His symptom is a cough which he has had for 4 months, but he also has Parkinson's and they thought it was something else.
Anyway, he is having a Bronchoscopy, where they put a tube in the throat to check the lymph nodes and also a biopsy of the large mass.
Then if it is cancer, possibly surgery. They think if it is cancer it's in the early stage and if not cancer, it could be an infection.
We are just taking one step at a time and praying that it's an infection and can be cleared up, but also have to be prepared for a more serious outcome.
I think he is in good hands with the Thoracic Surgeon and we hope for the best.

I'm also new to this group and I just went through very similar testing as your husband with lots of waiting and not knowing.. it's almost the worst part of the whole ordeal. Stay strong, I wish the best for you and your husband. He's so blessed to have you by his side. Hugs and prayers to you both!
The good news this week is that we found out he can have the Biopsy closer to home within 30 minutes travelling time,, so don't have to travel 90 minutes to the larger city, so that will be much better.
We know that hospital so if the weather isn't good, we could probably make it there........ hopefully.....
We could have had it in the larger hospital, but it wouldn't be until the end of Feb. and they think the other hospital will have a sooner appointment.
Also in the meantime, the tumor could grow, however the surgeon said in the last month it hasn't grown, so that's a good thing.

I need this group and the other group too as he also has Parkinson's, so it isn't easy for him.
That's great news about being able to use a closer facility and to get this test done quicker than Feb. That's too long to walk around not knowing. I hope that it goes well for him, the procedure and the results. I had 2 different doctors wanting to do that on me in the beginning, I guess it's the standard test to find out about the tumors. I was not looking forward to it, but first they drained fluid that was accumulating in my lung and were able to diagnose me from that. I'm not sure one procedure was better than the other. Getting answers is what really matters. I'm hoping they can get him in quickly and that you'll have answers and a plan of action very soon!
Questions to ask.. IDK We asked so many questions. I would say ask any and every thing that comes to mind, make a list as you think of them. I took in a little notebook with a list of questions and a pen to write the answers down so I wouldn't forget.
Your dad has a road in front of him. Just keep your spirits up and tryto keep his up too. I've always said mind over matter matters. I'm living proof of it in my own life and I kept his spirits up and the dr. was amazed at how quickly his body reacted and how easy the treatment was for him.
