I have talked to him. I get those reassuring messages too, but sometimes even they don't stop my insecurities from taking over. He is a solitary type person and I know that, but like I tell him a little bit of communication can go a long way with me. There are several things that I know show me how much he cares and wants to be with me, but I can't help feeling this way sometimes. It is so overwhelming and I don't have much to distract me. I moved for school and am entirely alone where I live, I left everything back home. We do really well for awhile, then something like today happens and we spiral out of control. Communication is a biggy for me too even if it's just a little 10 minute conversation but he doesn't get that. Everyone has good and bad days. Hopefully things between you will settle and be back to the good days very soon.
Like you, I find it hard to distract myself all my family & friends live in different cities and I often feel isolated. I try focus on making myself happy, little moments like painting my nails (I find I paint my nails a lot to try distract myself and it helps stop me constantly checking my phone to see if there's a message) or reading a book, I'm not a big book lover so that doesn't tend to last more than a chapter but it could work for you?

It helps so much to know that I am not alone in my struggles. I moved to attend a grad school program for writing, so reading and writing help distract me a lot. I have found that writing poetry helps me get my frustrations out and in some cases helps me let go of it (at least for a small period of time). I didn't even think about the nail painting thing, but I know that would work too! Aside from the tedious work, ruining fresh painted nails for a frustrating situation is not worth it!
