This community is a place where you can share your long distance challenges and triumphs, vent, give long distance tips and ideas, or just get support from people like you who are going through the same thing. Whether you live a couple hours away or a couple continents away, the specific challenges that face a long distance relationship are unique and difficult.
Hi guys! I'm really glad I found this website. Long distance relationships are new to me and I don't know anyone personally who has gone through this. My boyfriend currently lives about 200 miles away, which is about a 3 - 4 hour drive. We manage to see each other almost every weekend, and I know we're very lucky to be able to do this. But, in a few short months he's moving about 1,500 miles away for a job. Bye-Bye weekend visits.
He hasn't even left yet and we already have a plan for me to vist in late December/Early January when I'm on break from school, and again in late April/Early May after I graduate. And, if everything goes acording to plan, I will be joining him out there by this time next year. Again, I know we're very lucky that we won't be apart for even a full year....But the thing is, we're still so new. We've only been together for a few months and it feels crazy to be making plans like this (actually it doesn't but people keep telling me I'm crazy). To be banking such heavy decisions on each other like this is not something to take lightly, I know. There's so many things that could change or go wrong in the next 365 days. And yet, he feels like home. I want to be where he is. End of story.
I know things feel ok at this moment, but I know I'm going to slide into a right bad mood when he leaves. And since this is all so new to me, I don't really know if my anxieties are normal or not. I don't know the ins and outs to making something like this work. I don't know what the tips and tricks to ease the pain are, if there are any. and I don't know anyone who can relate to my struggles and tell me anything other than "long distance never works...but good luck!"
So...that's my story. And if anyone needs an ear to bend about their situation, please don't hesitate to reach out!
It will be more difficult, but like that old saying goes "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst." Enjoy your remaining time together. Maybe start talking about communication and stuff to help with some of your anxieties. That helped me A LOT before I moved. We are dealing with some other issues on top of all of that, but I am a firm believer that with trust, honesty, and communication everything will work out! Also a little support and reassurance goes a long way!
Likewise I am here to chat should you ever need it:) I made this move completely alone so I am also a bit lonely and in need of distractions from the loneliness.
