Long Distance Relationships (LDR) Support Group
This community is a place where you can share your long distance challenges and triumphs, vent, give long distance tips and ideas, or just get support from people like you who are going through the same thing. Whether you live a couple hours away or a couple continents away, the specific challenges that face a long distance relationship are unique and difficult.
My guy was just down here for a few days. Went home this morning and now I have to wait another month to see him again. I know in a few days I will start to feel better again but these first few days after he leaves just hurts so much I start questioning if the pain is worth it. I am 35 he is 31. There is over 500 miles between us. I met him on an online video game we both used to play. We became friends he wanted to meet and it took me 5 months before I would even consider letting it go that far because I was worried about this. I know I am luckier than some. He knew up front I have a child own my own home and would not move and while he loves his home he always said he would move if it worked out. It actually worked out much better than expected and the game plan is for him to start making double payments on a vehicle loan and for him to be here by April. I think maybe hes a little to optimistic on that because hes not taking into account all of life's wonderful surprises but I don't imagine it will be real long after his goal. Sometimes its hard. When he could not get down here for a couple of months one time people start saying wonder if hes messing around. I am positive he wasn't but lets face it sometimes real life just happens and not much you can do about it sometimes. Cars mess up grandmas birthday dinner next weekend standing up in friends wedding the next :). Its not like he was saying well Im to tired or going to hang out with the boys. Anyway right now I would just love to hear from someone who made it or is getting closer. Even though I know I am strong enough to get through the next few months it hurts right now missing him so much and would just like to lean on someone now and then and hear someone say everything will be fine.
I too felt very sad, but had the "well let's ensure i plan another visit soon" but he said " we should take it slower", so it's a catch 22.
I really want to make it work, he is interstate. He wants to make it work but thinks slower is better. I think it's harder!
The first few days are always the worst. I come on here to cope. Or I cry and eat complete garbage. Or all three.
My boyfriend and I have been together for almost two years, LD the whole time, and we have never broken up or even considered it. We're both very happy and an LDR is very doable, if you're willing to put forth the effort and the sacrifice of it.
It's painful to be away from the person you love the most..someone on here once posted saying that it's not normal, which they're right, it's not. But when you're meant to be with someone, you'll make it work.
I hope things have improved since you posted this. Maybe I'll luck out and you'll have an email notification set or something.
