Going away to school takes a little adjustment. There's a lot of new things and people to get used to. It almost sounds like he is brushing you off but... BUT... to think positively, think he is just getting his bearings and settled into his new place. You should want to support & encourage him, not resent him. If you are feeling resentment, maybe you need to take a step back & re-evaluate how you feel about him?

Does that make sense? Like, if you're not happy for him, how can he be happy to talk with you. I hear and get ALL of your side, totally understandable to be selfish.... just won't help showing him. Try distracting yourself & going out with friends for a couple days & reply minimally to him, supportive, positive things, so he knows you're there but not waiting on him and see if he starts wanting to stick to your agreement when he's the one left waiting. I have a couple friends that are my replacement / distraction for when I am in a similar situations with my bf and usually within a day he is asking to skype me and can't wait to see me.

Having maintained a long distance marriage for several years I can say that "littletictac" has a few good points. Like taking a step back and re-evaluate how you feel about him. An even better one is don't show how dependent on him you are. Try distracting yourself with friends and other activities.

No matter how you look at this the LTR thing is GOOD FOR YOU! here is why, you are more dependent on him than he is on you. What kind of man would tell you that he has not called you because he is watching a movie? In my most direct moment of blatant truthfulness I would have been more gentle than that. You deserve better than that. Yes, take a step back from this and then take another step back, and then maybe another. This was good for you for one reason, you need to learn to be independent.

When he calls (and he will) be sweet and friendly and your usual endearing self. Don't apologize for anything. Let him keep up his end of the agreement as you keep up yours. If he doesn't call for a while you have some decisions to make. But don't be hurt, and try not to act hurt or be hurtful or resentful. Be strong in yourself and find other friendships or relationships, or reading or work to keep yourself occupied and to reinforce your own self worth!

Long Term Relationship Marathoner!

This is sadly a normal thing that can occur during long distance relationships. I flipped out on my bf (now husband) about the same thing so many times during our years apart. He was the worst at communicating. We usually talked everyday but there were moments I would just slip his mind and it hurt so badly. I always worried about him and that something bad would happen and being so far away, I'd have no idea what happened and he'd be dead or something. One time we were on the phone and he was supposed to go home and skype me. He was driving and we were talking on the phone when suddenly his line went dead. I called back for hours and was crying thinking he got in an accident. Finally sometime after midnight he calls back and he had decided to visit some older couple he knew. He left his phone in the car and just forgot we were supposed to chat and got preoccupied so didn't call back. This was just ONE example. He had many instances like this and I always broke down. Anyways, everytime I would FLIP OUT on him. He deserved it and he would feel like the worst bf in the world. Well, my sharing this all is to say that even the best guys can kind of totally suck at making us a priority all the time. He was usually very good at spending time and loving me. But when he screwed up, he did it badly. I would always question his love then. It got to a point where I knew I made him a bigger priority than he did me. It was a learning experiance for us both. He thought differently than I did. Not every guy is the same but many guys can get preoccupied and forget even their favorite person. When you're not in their life face to face, it can be difficult to make the priority of that person you should. My husband is my favorite person. I would always tease him that he was perfect in everyway but one, communication. He truly adored me and was so loving. But being long distance failure to communicate the way I needed made it difficult. So yes as others have said, live your life. He's still your guy even if you don't talk everyday. As long as you both stay involved on a weekly basis and try and make a few good date nights once and awhile it'll be okay. If he loves you, he'll work at being the best for you. He may screw up royally for awhile, but again, he will acknowledge his faults and do better. Maybe slowly. Don't do what I did and constantly harp on his mistakes. Love him and let him see your independance. It's refreshing for him and he'll chase after you even more. Not every LDR is going to work, but those that do is because both people are in it for the long run come rain or shine. Be commited and do your part. It'll get easier as you learn what works best. Also don't be too strict on making two phone calls a day and so on. Life is unpredictable and you don't want to restrict either one of you from living because you have to make that phone call. If you love one another, you can wait for the sake of the other's happiness. I use my story because we got married six months ago after three years of LDR. It was a journey but it was so worth it! Being long distance is beautiful because you truly treasure everyday you get to be together with that person. After six months I still wake up excited to be by his side.
