Hi everyone. I am new to this group. I met a woman on line back in October and she has been visiting me every two weeks since December. We have had a beautiful relationship. We love each other very much and we talk every day and night. I have not gone to visit her because I have a medical condition that does not allow me to drive that long at least for the moment but I hope this will change soon. She has accepted this and she has offered to be the one who travels. She lives two and a half hours away from me. Everything was going well until yesterday. She was supposed to visit me today. Yesterday morning she asked me if I was ok with her visiting today or if I wanted to postpone her visit for a week. I told her I was very busy this week and that I had to make a big and stressful decision for a meeting this week. I asked her to give me a few minutes to think about which would be the best time for her visit. When I called her back she said she had decided not to visit me today and that she was not sure she could visit me next week either. I asked her to please come visit me today but she said no. I asked her all day long yesterday. I begged, I told her I had made a mistake and to please forgive me. But she said I had made her feel bad and that she would feel bad if she came to visit me today. She would feel like a burden. I told her she would not be a burden and to please come. But she said no. Last night we had a long talk and I asked her if she still loved me. She said she loved me and missed me and she was very sad she could not see me today. But she could not see me because she would feel bad. I talked to her today three times. She does not want to talk much. She says she is very busy. I told her I missed her a lot and she told me to forget about her and concentrate in doing the work I was so worried about yesterday. She is acting so cold and distant. This is so different from the way she has treated me since we started. My question is am I losing her? Is she just upset and will she get over this? Last night I apologized to her. I told her I had made a mistake and that I was stupid. I got nervous about the work I had to do. I dont want to lose her. This is the best thing that has happened to me in years. The long distance is not helping. Missing a few days I could have been with her makes me feel extremely sad. But I am mostly worried about how cold she is acting, including the fact that she told me that she will visit me whenever she can and she does not know when that will be. Before she would do the impossible to see me. I dont want her to distance herself from me. I dont want to lose what we had until yesterday. I feel I messed up when I considered the option of postponing her visit. I felt this was not the best time for her to visit but now I regret what I did because she is acting so upset and being so cold to me. I dont even know when I will see her again. She just called me from work. I told her I felt she was being cold to me as if she did not care about me. She told me that she had told me last night that she loved me very much and that she thought that was enough. She could not talk freely like that when she was at work surrounded by people. I told her I understood. She told me she had everything ready to come visit me yesterday but then I told her I was very busy and she decided not to come visit. She said she was very tired because she is not sleeping. She said she was getting tired of everything. She said she suffered more than I did but since she had suffered a lot in her life she was able to endure the suffering. Maybe that explains why she is so cold. Its her way of coping. She told me she had to hang up and I told her I loved her very much but she said nothing and hung up. My question is did I mess this up for good or is she just upset and she will get over this? I really dont want to lose her or have her feelings change toward me. She used to love me very much. As I said, we talked every day and night and we used to tell each other we love each other very much and miss each other. That is not happening today.

Aside from being sad at the idea that I might lose her I feel very sad when she is cold and distant. Since I dont know when I will see her again I need affection from her. This is the hard part of being in a LDR. If I cant be with her I need her to demonstrate some love and affection. But I am not getting that. I am getting the cold shoulder. And that makes me suffer. I feel this is unfair since I dont feel I did such a terrible thing. I have been a very loving and caring partner. She herself has said that I have been her best partner in this respect. I want to stop suffering. She describes herself as a person who has suffered all her life. Maybe she is not a healthy person and she is dragging me into her suffering. Maybe she is making a big deal out of nothing.

You made a reasonable request when you asked her to let you concentrate on your work. She needs to get over it. You should busy yourself with activities you like. If she really cares about you, she will get over it in a few days. Don't call too much. It makes you appear needy. When you do speak, be as you were before so she sees nothing has changed. She needs to accept that sometimes you have to change days because of responsibilities. She is making a big deal out of nothing. If it were the other way around, she would expect you to understand.

It's a difficult situation. One of the hard things for me in my LDR is my insecurity. I talk to my partner constantly and she is extremely patient and understanding. That has really helped me. I think that you should try to see things from her point of view, be patient, and don't dwell on it. You can't change what you've already done. Afterwards, when things ease out, let her know that you really appreciate her giving you space to deal with work. Tell her you understand her if she feels unwanted but make sure she understands that it has nothing to do with her. After all, if you could, you would live together and be together always, but I'm sure (like most LDR's) that just isn't possible. Trust that she will understand this. Good luck!
