my hometown drop-in practically outside the back door of my apt building, so went there today....watched tv, paced back and forth, talked on an on to volunteer sitting there.
a change of scenery, definately helped.
and watched oldies on tcm, "my brother talks to horses", in which kid sick for a week after the horse he had psychic bond with died. And after that, "bachelor and bobby soxer", in which court psychiatrist thinks its good therapy for 17 yr old shirley temple to date cary grant!
anybody have a 'drop-in" in their area, where you can just sit around with others with mental illness?
...though the one in my hometown preety dead, with me today as only visitor with the volunteers.

We also have an AA club but to be able to be in there you come hour before meetings its ok but if you belong and pay dues you can go anytime.
Independance center is structured w volunteering jobs but dont recall tv in there. Its for psych peeps. They have staff and cook meals for all to buy on cheap. All peeps volunteer at something towards helping do jobs of the place. I worked in the outreach program and did lots of stuff. Learned to use computers for word processing there... That helped my schooling bunches and allowed growth of skills w their help there.

this place also has a computer, though need a password, which nobody could tell me, but maybe eventually i can spend time there on computer for a change of scenery.
i also got rid of a terrible virus on their computer, after it was practically dead (from somebody downloading one of those phoney toolbars). And, watched "the shop around the corner" oldie on tv, with a character almost committing suicide.
watched two women play parchisi, while they and i talked; definately something new to just talk to somebody, and for hours!
Soon, i'll be...able...to spend less time at the drop-in, and be in my emptier apt, which has become a mess in less than a week.
my local drop-in turned out to be better than therapy?
