i know of people who have retired there is also a co-worker who is retiring nex to be exact, for him he told me he look forward to being at home with his wife, being able to travel and do stuff about the house. i am aware of some who said to enjoy it with the freedom to travel or what not. there are some who return to work for either financial reasons or because they were simply bored at home. i personally would like to retire from work but i have a long waaaaays to go before that time comes. with retire you have the freedom to do whatever you please, whether it be hobbies or travel. think of what you would like to do if you haven't done so already and if you are financially stable and able, i say go for it.

I am through with work, on a pension and absolutely love doing what I
want to do, when I want to do it. I always have something I want to do.
I get bored on occasion, but not for long.

I enjoy writing short stories and making things. Until a few years ago, I lived in one state and travelled very little, for most of my life, I think it would be fun to move and live in different sections of the country
for 4 or 5 years, or, if you're in good shape, walking the Appalachian
Trail - I once read an article about 3 85 yr old females walking the AT
together. Very inspiring. I've always loved flowers, and every season,
I've bought hanging baskets and mums. I planted 160 tulips last fall.
I had always planned to plant tulips.

A retirement board would be a great idea.

A retirement *would* be a good idea. Tho some other site may have one.

My father used to talk a lot about developing hobby interests ahead of time. (Which he did; being a fisherman from age 45 on.)

It depends, the whole matter, on whether you have several interests -- and whether they can be expanded. Thinking time; more hours per week.

I don't think I'll ever really "retire" from video production. I like it, enjoy it, find it creative and challenging.

This boring fucking security guard job, however, that I've been doing to bring in a few extra bucks between video assignments, which don't pay well enough to ride out empty dry spells between them, I would've liked to have retired from 4 years ago when I first started it. Doing that job for 4 years is 4 years too long. I only took it on because of the fucking recession, as a sort of recession backup plan. Who knew the recession would be going on for so long (6 years now and counting)???

Before the bubble burst and the recession hit in '08, I felt kinda "semi retired". I was making better money doing videos. I would kill myself doing high volume in the spring, squirrel away those pennies and "coast" through the summer and fall months when business was slow. I'd bike-ride a lot and watch a lot of movies. I got sorta bored in between free-lance assignments. There are only so many movies and daytime TV one can watch before one dies of boredom, gets the urge to hit the bottle, frequent call girls or do something dangerous like pick a fight...just out of sheer boredom...maybe do something crazy like re-finance one's house to fund a movie project! So, no, complete retirement is not for me. I gotta continually create.

Yes, like Pinterest said, it's nice to have the money to have the freedom to travel, to do what I want when I want without having to answer to anyone else, maybe treat my Vietnamese honey to a cruise every now and then.

I play the various Lotto drawings every now and then and remain hopeful...

It would be great to suddenly win million$, put the money somewhere safe where it's not affected by stock market conditions, buy one's self some LifeLock to lock down all of one's accounts against identity thieves who want to hack in and steal it all...and dip into it every now and then to enjoy life!

I am also very concerned about how I will pass my days after retirement. Of course, in addition to being an empty nester by that time.
I am not a very creative person, and do not have a lot of hobbies and interests that will see me through.

I am scared of loneliness, also I know it is not easy to make new friends at this age. God help me.

ROFL is a favourite of mine: rolling on (the) floor laughing. It is a very terse little set of letters, kind of a dry understatement.

It could be recommended to a person who expects to use iNet forums or very much e-mail to look up emoticons (incl text-based emoticons). There are dozens of initialisms and "smileys" (generic group) which are sometimes useful and fun.

Things like LOL (Internet jargon) are going off in the direction of the "FYI"
expression. Except there are historical reasons (late 1960s MIT computer culture, & programming languages often using abbreviated Engl.).

I retired last Jan 3ed officially, but my last day at work was Dec22.

I do not want to go back to work. However, I am not married, have no children, live in a small town with nothing to do, and don't know many people. Saying all that because I have become extremely isolated which has made my depression go out of control.

I love the no work part. But be sure you have people and activities to keep you involved. Don't turn into a hermit like me!

It is a great time to do things you have always wanted. Get involved with hobbies you never had time for or travel. I agree totally with Chara. Plan ahead what you will do to stay busy. and keep in touch with your friends!
