many acquaintances not many friends....that is so true of me and many many more but there are those who think acquaintances are friends too...the feeling that they are friends is a feeling that is so self indulgent....I guess too many people never realize how few friends they have....

I have a ton of acquaintances...all because of my kids. I have one best friend. Some of my acquaintances are a little closer to me but to be able to call them up and say lets go out for a night....doesn't happen too often

jack Nicholson, in a documentary during the making of "the shining" said how celebrities like him meet 10 times as many people in a year than most people meet during their entire life.

Makes sense. Out of all the contacts I have 4 are close friends; People I can talk to about anything going on in my life. And only 2 of those 4 actually understand the things I go through.

I have about 10 other contacts on social media who are just acquaintances. People I can have fluff conversations with and "like" the funny pictures we each share. But when I'm going through depression and feeling like dirt, they aren't the people I can turn to for support.

Few people they can CONSIDER friends--people they can really open up to without fear of persecution--it's true.

I love that documentary, Penntucky! And Jack made "friends" rather easily, as long as those "friends" didn't want anything from him, of course. Shelly Duvall had a harder time, as evidenced in the documentary, making friends, as she feverously tried to gain sympathy, to no avail.

jack Nicholson, in the 1970s, found out his "sister" was really his "mom"...Nicholson's mom, in those long ago times, had to hide her "illegitimate" pregnancy, so the clich of mom going away while pregnant, with that lie....have to wonder if new jersey's jack's story was inspiration for a "the sopranos" episode in which paulie finds out his dying, aunt turned nun, is really his mom.

in "the shining" documentary, Nicholson is shown brushing his teeth after eating, to have nice breath for his co-stars, and then he immediately afterwards smokes a cigarette!

poor shelly duvall, according to a tabloid a few years ago...turned hoarder and seeing flying saucers.

the only person I was able to talk to about my life, last year, was somebody who lives 75 miles away, and I only talked to him cause of new year eve's excuse, to call him for about the 2nd time in 10 years.

I have one good friend in town we get together about once a month. I have known him almost 20 years. Thank God for him.
