Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. If you aren't an aggressively outgoing individual that draws people like magnets - it's not your fault. Most people who are drawn to aggressively outgoing people are drawn because that person meets the expectation of being superficial. They may care on some level but for the most part everyone either has an agenda that is specific to the interaction with that person or a need to belong in which case superficially being accepted is alright. This works OK if each person understands his or her role and accepts it.
OTOH, what a shallow way of existing! Sure it's nice for the occasional chat or general social networking but for anything deeper, people's attention spans are short. The other thing is this...competition. You are fortunate if you end up meeting even 1 person who will be attentive to encouraging your personal and professional interests and genuinely supports you in your endeavors.
Friends can be mentors and vice versa but too often they aren't either or if they are - something else enters their world to draw their attention. One has to look at this thing then from a certain POV. Some people aren't meant to be close friends and if you end up having a lot of acquaintances you are actually still doing pretty well! Try to keep your expectations on the lower side which I hate to say because it sounds so negative but the truth is - putting yourself OUT THERE is only one kind of effort which isn't likely to yield a return unless you have quite a bit in common with the people in the situation, i.e., common interests, causes, hobbies etc..
So, just put yourself out there incrementally, sparingly and be selective about who and where you do so. Dip your toes in and once in awhile build a bridge of connections but expect them to mostly remain superficial so that if one does go deeper into the connection it will have been worth it!
Stay positive and try not to feel bad or disappointed with people because the truth is you will end up feeling crappy if you dwell on it. Feed your own soul and give your support to people who need it but don't spread yourself thin to meet the demands of any one person especially if they are takers. Know your worth isn't measured by how many people like you but rather how you see yourself - with or without them.
I wish you luck.
