Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. I am so very sorry about the loss of your father, and your best friend, all in the same year. (Or were you saying your father was the best friend?) Either way, a huge loss, and I am so sorry.
I am sorry for your pain -- I am not ill, but the way things have developed in my life, I have worried for several years now that I will be alone for the rest of my life, so I think I can relate on that level.
Please hang in there.
Sending gentle hugs of support.
P.S. Would your illness allow for a dog? Or, if walking is a problem, a cat, or other pet? Animal shelters are overflowing with loving creatures who are even more desperate and scared than we are.
Just read your "About Me" -- your dog lived to be 29?????
Holy COW, that has GOT to be a record!!
take care.
I have periods of loneliness now, but when I was a party girl I had all the friends a girl could want.
When I settled down and stopped going out each weekend and a few times a week day I started drifting from my friends.
Plus I was a teacher and where I am from you had to fit into a box of what a teacher should act and look like. I can remember going out with friends and they were drinking wine with their meals or smoking cigarettes and I couldn't do either in public.
My dad passed seven years ago and my mom a little over a month ago. My best friend died fifteen years ago and I still miss her like yesterday.
I do understand what you are talking about when you said you knew a lot of people when you had drinking and drug issues.
In this particular case I vote yes for lonliness over drinking and drugs. You will eventually meet new friends they will just be from a different walk of life that doesn't include d and d.
Maybe try getting yourself involved in activities that one allows you to have fun and two allows you the possibility to meet people.
I don't know what you have in your area, but I would have no problem going to a library alone or a bowling alley. I usually meet poeple at the library but since I'm married and they are flirts they don't count as possible friend material.
