Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. So while at a football game today my friend says to me. "I'm thinking of proposing to my girlfriend what do you think? Is it a good idea? I mean, do you think its the right time?" My reply was, "How the hell should I know? I'm not dating her..." before I was saved by a 105 yard kick return for a touchdown. Which is probably not the response he was looking for, or even close. I'm sure he was just seeking my approval of his girlfriend. As if what I say will change his mind, if he asked me that question he's already decided. I suppose the support of his oldest friend would have been nice to have. I realized I blew that whole conversation on the ride home, but he never brought it back up. I know I'm not very good at talking to people, even my friends, and they always seem to ask me about things I have no clue about, like relationships. I've tried the whole, think about what you say before you say it and consider how it would make me feel thing. Which doesn't work, because something that wouldn't bother me is most likely a terrible thing to say to someone else. With constant episodes like this, I'm surprised my friends even tolerate me anymore. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, I'm not really looking for advice and I'm pretty sure this constant feeling of apathy towards human connection is why I go through life alone.

When I read what you said to your friend, I immediately thought, "Hell, most of the guys I know would have responded in a similar fashion." You just have the guts and the insight to be honest about how you felt afterwards.

Circumstances considered I think you responded the right way. You're right, he's dating her, not you. If it was a question of him suspecting she's fooling around, I could see why he might ask. But, other than that, it's really his call and nothing more you could have said about it.

Your gut reaction is right on. People ask others advice because they want you to tell them what they want to hear...A way to deflect this is to turn the questioner back to himself as the final authority..just say "I think you should do what your heart tells you, because others opinions are just that, others opinions..I used to be like your friend, till i realized I was wanting people to echoe my own opinions, not offer alternative views, cause if they did, I would be upset with them, aint it weird! hav a goodun

I want to ask you a question. Do you feel better alone? If you do then you may have answered your own question. If not then I will say that you're lucky to have held onto your friends for as long as you have. I know I have lost patience with mine at times, and I'm paying for the results. As humans we all need compassion, and sometimes that will mean "Walking the extra mile" when we don't want to. It's all the price we pay for having friends.

The answer is, while I enjoy the company of my few friends, I am most comfortable by myself.
