Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...

Hi. I'm new to this community, but I'm here because I have no support in life. I've been holding in my emotions for a long time because I had no one who cared to listen. I work full time and go to college online but it gets hard when I want to talk because no one wants to hear about my accomplishments, concerns or thoughts. I have family, but they tune me out when I start talking. Outside of family, I don't have any real friends and I've never really fit in anyway. I'm always caring about others but I've realized no one truly cares about me and that's a really painful realization. I feel like, why am I even trying to make a better life for myself if I'm doing it alone?
I recently got promoted which is good, but I feel like it brought about some emotional changes too. I'm used to knowing the answer to everything, but this new position doesn't have anything relatable for me. I am fumbling through okay, but still feel like an idiot most days. How I'm feeling goes even deeper, but I just can't articulate everything right now. I just feel so alone even though I'm surrounded by people.

Have you ever read a book that made you want to travel somewhere? (And if so, did you ever actually travel there?)

We care and listen if that is any consolation for you. There are so many caring people here and they are not just talking to be talking, they truly mean what they say. We want to hear about your accomplishments, as well as your failures, if there are any. We all have them, however.
It IS painful when we feel as though no-one cares about us but it's amazing where we end up finding those caring people. Just when you least expect it.
You are making a better life for yourself and that is wonderful. You are not doing it for just yourself. Someday you will have somebody that you can share it with, but right now is not the time for some reason. And it doesn't matter the whys, it matters that you know it's going to be okay. Congratulations on your promotion by the way. I am sure you are going to do just great at your new position. Believe in yourself as much as the people do who hired you.
And please don't call yourself an idiot. that you ARE NOT! Please share what you are having trouble sharing at the moment, when you are ready. There is no time limit here on DS. I know the feeling of being alone even when there are people around. It is not a very nice feeling, but I hope we can change that for you. Keep posting and I'm glad you were able to share what you did. Hugs GB
However, people do care. I care....even if I'm a stranger. You will learn to pick and choose friends who aren't one-sided. I know...you can't choose family.
Keep venting here....it has great people and you will get validation of your feelings!
You are NOT alone!
Sometimes in getting into new situations you meet new people - maybe even just saying "I'm new at this part of the job and unsure the best way to do such-and-such, how do you do it?" May get the other person talking about themselves which (if you are a good listener) may help them to want to talk to you again.
Most times you look much better in other people's eyes than you ever do in your own.... a narcissist is a perfect example of someone who will look better in their own eyes, but I doubt that there is even one of those on this board! :)
Hugs.
So many families have their own "politics" and it's all about the one or two they hold in esteem, the one or two they can't criticize enough, and for me, I always felt plenty of the attitudes were tied to gender. I used to use an inflated example of their favortism, just out of envy and frustration, that if one of my brothers went to jail, the whole bunch would be like, 'Oh, we sure hope he gets home in time for Thanksgiving' but if I had so much as gotten a speeding ticket and they found out, the response, "She just has no respect for the law."
Everybody feels inadequate in a new position and it takes a while
to make it yours. They may all be darling, but.... sometimes, there's a few, that really wanted the job, and may not be as friendly or as helpful as they seem. I regret not having picked up on that a time or two, along the way.
Congratulations on your promotion. A full time job and college is exhausting. Once you're comfortable in the job and not learning something all day, along with studying at night, it'll be much easier. Maybe you can find a hobby (running/walking photography, etc.) that you can't wait to spend time on.
