Loneliness Support Group
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any...

this is something that dawned on me a few days ago. i was stepping out of the shower, and after drying off i bent and flipped my head to wrap a towel around it. i have recently gotten over an ear infection in which i had debilitating vertigo, and though it is pretty much ok now i will still occasionally get dizzy when i make sudden movements like this.
anyhow, it took everything i had to catch myself and not fall... nothing too serious. but then i started to wonder - what if i had fallen and hit my head... these accidents happen quite frequently. that so much wasn't the part that bothered me -- i then started to realize that if it happened, i could very easily be laying there for over a week or so before anyone would even notice i was gone. i have family, but they live out of town and do not keep in touch on a regular basis. the very few friends i have are the same --- sporadic conversations. i had taken a few vacation days from work, so until i was supposed to be back there no one would have any idea anything was wrong. and i could probably be missing from work very several days before they would actually make more of an effort than a couple of phone calls....
then i started thinking about this episode of sex & the city, where miranda found out the woman who previously owned her apartment died in an accident similar to the one i just described --- by the time anyone checked on her, half of her face was eaten by her cat. miranda then starting worrying about the same thing, and started over feeding her cat.
i have never really felt loneliness until that moment --- or at least not to this degree.

I have that feeling all the time i completely understand. Being lonely can be intense but i think someone would notice if something happened to you. If you ever get really lonely just call a friend and ask them to go out with you.

I think about that a lot too. How long would it take for someone to find me? The part about the cat is gross. I have a cat. I can go for weeks with no one calling me. Pretty pathetic, eh?

no, you're not pathetic liane... or if you are so am i! lol i really think if it weren't for work i could disappear for a good amount of time before anyone would start being alarmed or worry. that is what bothers me i guess.

Making friends here is not the same as having close friends and family, but it helps. Find someone you trust to set up an accountability relationship with. They could notify family if they don't hear from you.

Hey dear, I am so sorry you are overwhelmed by these fears. I lived completely alone at a very young age for two full years. I had never had history of psychological disorders, but I developed VERY high anxiety and terrible panic attacks during that period. The reason why is because living alone can be very scary, but the truth is, it's mind over matter. These are mind-created fears, they are not really. the chances of something bad happening to you are miniscule. Just talk yourself through it next time it happens and actually tell yourself that you are afraid and that it's okay to feel that way. Do not internalize it or the deny it. Just know that the fear is irrational and although the situation SUCKS, you are not in danger. best of luck
