Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. Upset, I don't know if you realize it or not, but you're frontal lobe is not fully developed until your early 20's. That's the part that enables you to do the tedious work of using higher reasoning skills to work through complex and tedious problems. Right now the part of your brain doing all the thinking is the emotional part.
You seem really nice and smart, but your strong emotional reaction is kind of related to where you are age wise. Most people complain that adulting is hard work, but forget that teens are facing higher levels of stress, more difficulty connecting and are under all this pressure to figure out what they want out of life. You need the de-stressing effect that down time and friends offer.
You are right about the world being a huge place with millions of people and it can seem weird that out of so many people you are alone. The thing is, you don't have to be alone.
Friendships are based on what people have in common. The key to meeting people and forming really cohesive bonds is to link with large groups of people who like to do the same things you do.
You described yourself as introverted or a loner. Trust me, you're not. I'm a loner and get irritated when friends call to interrupt my solo activities with invitations to go out and do things. How dare they interrupt my endless hours of hanging out with myself, doing my own thing....lol.
You are feeling this way because you have a need to socialize. Don't flounder so long that you begin having self-esteem issues. That's a harder problem to fix.
I think you mistook underdeveloped social skills for being a loner. You get good social skills by practicing. Just hanging out with other people and talking will give you confidence. Take it slow and shoot for say 3-6 acquaintances. Practice opening up and talking. You'll misstep but so what, they will make an occasional misstep as well.
Loneliness really has no mercy at times.
I am here for you, to listen, to understand.............
